Hello fellow WHTers!

Train the environment.

So I'm sitting on the train -- yes, as I write this. I like taking public transportation when I can. It is one small way to leave less of an impact on the ecology. I like the roominess, comfort, and gentle pace that trains provide. Besides, these three hour drives don't go over so well with my body. As I'm sitting next to and chatting with a seasoned train traveler, she happens to mention that she's been traveling this same train for several years. "I could drive", she says, "but the train's going where I'm going anyways. So why should I add to emissions?" I like that thinking!

In the last newsletter, we featured our Web Hosting Wiki article about green web hosting and steps providers are taking to leave less of an environmental footprint. It's great to see providers taking steps to lessen their carbon footprint. The first featured thread in this issue of the newsletter focuses on how data centers can use temperature to use less energy and therefore have a diminished environmental impact.

In other news, WHT is Twittering at @WebHostingTalk. We'll be updating you with links to popular threads and topics. If you're a fan of Twitter, or want to get the latest on WHT happenings, be sure to follow us!

From west bound on the Wolverine 541, this is SWR signing off.

See you on the forums!

Here are a few of the great things the community at Web Hosting Talk is talking about this week...

Member KarlZimmer opens a great discussion on optimal Data Center Temperatures in our Colocation and Data Center Discussion forum.

When companies have billing issues they haven't tackled before, they get input from their peers in our forum. The Hosting Team asks Would you correct this customer's bill? in our Running a Web Hosting Business forum.

For a lively discussion about whether to continue billing clients when their sites are suspended, check out You now owe 6 months of service! It's in our Running a Web Hosting Business forum started by member oliviakitty that takes an inside look.

Is Business Up or Down? is the question asked by pagebuzz in the Running a Web Hosting Business forum. The answers may surprise you.

Do you offer reseller hosting? Then you might want to check into Reseller account limits? Asked by $alesMan in our Reseller Hosting Forum.

This is a small sampling of great discussions going on now at WebHostingTalk.com. We can't possibly fit them all in this newsletter, so get in there and get involved!

How web hosting affiliate programs work

Web hosting affiliate programs provide a way for web hosts to increase their client base by paying or crediting affiliates for sending them new clients. Orders that come to web hosts via affiliates are identified by an affiliate link (also called a referral link) or a coupon code.

Some web hosts invite only existing clients to take part in their affiliate program, while others offer their affiliate program to anyone who wants to be an affiliate. Web hosting affiliate programs are also sometimes used to partner with companies that offer related services, such as web designers or SEO consultants.
