Hello fellow WHTers!

I can't dance - But I've been known to Twitter and Twhirl.

Dennis Johnson (aka SoftWareRevue)

Many of you know I Twitter @WebHostingTalk. You may not know I also Twitter @SoftWareRevue. If you haven't caught Twitter Fever yet, give it a Twhirl! There are a few choices when it comes to desktop apps for Twitter. I use Twhirl to Tweet with because it allows multiple accounts. I haven't quite figured out this Twitter thing yet. But I've figured out I'll be Twhirlin' when I do.

For those of you keeping your eye on the birdie, the dove has flown the coop. Here she is at her first stop - a limb in a tree! Here is video of Anna setting the bird she rescued free. The full length video is here. I'm not sure how noble it is to fix something you had a hand in breaking, but it's a satisfying experience nonetheless. And now, whenever we hear the soft coo of a mourning dove, we'll wonder if it's Lovey, and if she's happy.

Getting a web hosting business off the ground takes care and planning as well. Our first featured thread revolves around one web host's first weeks with the doors open.

Thanks for listening. And, see you on the forums!

Web Hosting Wiki Spotlight

Shared hosting

Shared web hosting, with many websites hosted on the same server, is the most common form of web hosting service. Numerous clients' websites are housed together to share the same resources (processor, memory, bandwidth, software), and the number of sites per server can be up into the thousands. In recent years, this hosting option has dynamically grown to become the most popular one.

Another term for shared hosting is virtual hosting. It is important to differentiate between "shared/virtual hosting" and "VPS hosting." Shared hosting usually entails many dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of websites intermingled on one server device. VPS hosting usually consists of less than one dozen websites (and their applications) residing on an individual server device with certain electronic partitions demarking each site into reserved zones on that server device.
