Web Hosting Solution, R1Soft MySQL, Debuts True-Granular Restore Technology
Houston, Texas - (The Hosting News) - August 15, 2007 - Developer of near-continuous data protection products for Linux and Windows, R1Soft, has developed its MySQL backup product, designed to offer a new feature that provides developers and administrators significantly more control and options when restoring MySQL databases.
According to the company, the True Granular Restore solution means that for the first time, MySQL administrators can more closely control what data is restored;right down to the individual table level. Any combination of tables and/or databases can be selected and optionally restored to alternate locations, allowing new flexibility when only a small amount of data may need to be restored in a large database. Restoring to an alternate location allows administrators to review the restored data before committing it to a live database environment, or even extract individual rows or objects. Currently, R1Soft's CDP Server, available for both Linux and Windows platforms, is the only backup product in the world that offers this functionality for MySQL.
David Wartell, Founder and CEO of R1Soft remarked, ''When we began developing our product, we realized that table level restores would be the killer new feature for MySQL database recovery. In looking at the technical limitations, we realized why it had never been done before, especially with InnoDB. But after a lot of coffee and many late nights, we ultimately developed a way to make it happen, and we're the first to do so. Other backup software vendors have been sitting back and waiting for MySQL to build them a next-generation backup API, which is years away at best. We made a decision early on that we are not going to wait, and neither should the market. With our product, the MySQL community finally has the easy to use and high performance backup software it needs.''
R1Soft recently received MySQL's Enterprise Certified Technology seal, an important recognition from the makers of the open source database. R1Soft's MySQL product currently works with both the MyISAM and InnoDB storage engines, as well as all MySQL Enterprise and Community releases, versions 4.1 and greater.
R1Soft's CDP products diverge significantly from traditional database backup technologies, which essentially create SQL dumps to another medium, such as a tape drive. These methods only provide data protection on a daily or weekly basis, and interrupt transactions on busy MySQL servers. R1Soft's CDP technology, however, monitors changes to the disk as they happen, thereby reducing backup periods to seconds or minutes. It also affords even the busiest MySQL servers hot backups for both MyISAM and InnoDB with zero transaction loss or down time.
R1Soft currently produces Continuous Data Protection solutions designed for data centers, web hosting providers, and other firms using Linux servers. Founded in 2003, Righteous Software is a provider of disk-based backup solutions, with low cost, scalable and integrated products, featuring products designed to integrate with Linux-based systems.
