VMware Launches Stage Manager

January 24, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Virtualization software provider VMware (vmware.com) recently announced that is has launched the public beta of VMware Stage Manager.

VMware says that Stage Manager automates management of complete, multi-tier application environments - including the servers, storage and networking systems that support them - as they move through various stages from integration to testing to staging and user acceptance before being released into production.

"VMware has once again responded to the needs of customers ahead of the curve and has delivered a rock-solid beta," says Dave Welch, principal for House of Brick Technologies, and a beta adoptee. "They've thought of just about everything, but kept the interface simple. VMware Stage Manager enables IT to transition applications cleanly through to production and also helps administrators move out of rote operations and keep them focused on ROI-generating projects."

VMware says that software staging, which covers the pre-testing of patches, updates, additions, or new modules to existing software or introduction of new applications, is a fairly new role for virtualization, but one that may be realized to be well suited.

Last month, Logicworks joined the VMware Service Provider Program.
