SoftLayer Updates cPanel Servers
June 26, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider SoftLayer (softlayer.com) announced on Tuesday that it has deployed cPanel update servers on the network inside its data center to accelerate cPanel installations and updates.
SoftLayer says cPanel provides an easy-to-use and highly-scalable management interface for Linux and BSD servers The addition of the cPanel update servers directly addresses a large portion of SoftLayer's customer base where one out of every four servers deployed at SoftLayer utilizes cPanel, making it one of the most commonly used products in its data center. Having these update servers on the data center network will dramatically increase the speed of initial installation, licensing and provisioning, says the company.
"We're excited to provide this local service with the new release of cPanel 11," says Joshua Rushe, SoftLayer director of operations. "With a local update repository like this, zero-day patches happen right away. Our customers won't have to wait on the public cPanel peers anymore. Combined with our automated OS reload feature, cPanel servers can be re-purposed on demand. SoftLayer is one of cPanel's largest partners and now one of a select number of data centers around the world with an on-site cPanel update server."
Last week, SoftLayer developed additional features for API that will go live this week, in response to the high adoption rate of API.
