Server Solutions Firm, Unisys, Debuts LinuxWorld Open Source Interoperability
San Francisco, California - (The Hosting News) - August 16, 2007 - At LinuxWorld San Francisco 2007, Unisys Corporation has featured a demonstration of interoperability among open source software, from multiple providers. The demo was sponsored by the Open Solutions Alliance (OSA).
Unisys is a founding member of OSA and the first systems integrator to join OSA. Anthony Gold, Vice President and General Manager of Unisys Open Source Business and an OSA board member remarked, ''This leading-edge demonstration not only spotlights the invaluable work of OSA, but also showcases Unisys leadership in services-led open source and enterprise security solutions.''
The Unisys hosted demonstration shows how information about a single customer can be integrated and shared across multiple, disparate open source applications including enterprise requirements planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM) and business planning. In the demo, business information about an individual is added to the ERP application and seamlessly integrated with the other applications so that it is reported in a uniform way.
Also, the demonstration will show a single sign-on capability, which eliminates the need for an enterprise user to enter a separate authentication for each application they need to access within a single environment. The result is a common customer view with better data integration, faster transaction speed and improved reporting with enhanced security. Unisys enhances the benefits delivered via single sign-on through its innovative solutions, which include consulting, modernization, migration and support services for open source users.
Other OSA members participating in the demonstration include the following open source providers:
- Centric CRM;
- Open Bravo - ERP software;
- Adaptive Planning.com - business planning software;
- JasperSoft - reporting engine;
- Talend.com - data integration; and
- SpikeSource - single sign-on component.
The integrated demonstration solution runs on a 32-processor Unisys ES7000/one Enterprise Server. The ES7000/one employs six virtual machines, each hosting a Linux-driven open source environment. Each OSA vendor's solution is deployed in a different virtual machine. In addition to the OSA members' products, the ES7000/one Enterprise Server in the demo hosts many other open products, such as the Sun Java JDK and Tomcat, along with LDAP Directory Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle databases.
Dominic Sartorio, President of Open Solutions Alliance commented, ''Unisys has already demonstrated the value of integrated open source components through its Open and Secure Integrated Solutions. We are pleased that Unisys has brought that same integration expertise to bear on a demonstration solution that showcases the value that OSA and its members can deliver to the open source community, as well as businesses and governments worldwide.''
