Qwest, Web Hosting Managed Service Firm, Supports NewsMarket Network Services

New York, New York – (The Hosting News) – December 15, 2008 – Managed Hosting and Network Services firm, Qwest, had been chosen to support The NewsMarket global web-based video marketing and distribution business expansion.

Krish Menon, Chief Technology Officer for The NewsMarket remarked, ”We wanted to leverage the capabilities of an established player in the hosting space and chose Qwest to handle the large volume of video content we host, manage and deliver to more than 16,000 newsrooms globally. Ensuring video gets to the news media is a mission-critical aspect of our business, so selecting a provider was a significant decision for us. Qwest’s ability to collaborate to deliver a fully redundant and scalable managed hosting solution won our business.”

With the newly customized, secure and redundant managed hosting services, NewsMarket’s New York City headquarters operates a web-based platform for video news content. The company’s media site, www.thenewsmarket.com, is used by more than 16,000 media outlets in 193 countries to access news video for use in their programming. Corporations, government and nonprofit organizations use the platform to share video content with the media, bloggers, consumers, online communities and other audiences.

A Qwest Hosting customer since 2002, The NewsMarket has grown its initial relationship with Qwest from a few dedicated servers to a fully redundant hosting solution. Qwest is delivering managed firewalls, redundant switches, redundant Internet feeds, tape backup services, power, cooling and around-the-clock technical support on an as-needed basis administered through Qwest’s New York-area CyberCenter.

Teresa Taylor, Executive Vice President, Qwest Business Markets Group commented, ”For companies like The NewsMarket, Qwest eliminates capital outlay and the complexity of installing and maintaining a secure hosting environment. Qwest’s network backbone complements our hosting environment because we can provide network uptime guarantees and traffic management to help speed data. Those capabilities, along with our national presence and international relationships, give us the reach to deliver hosting solutions to customers worldwide.”

As part of this latest contract, Qwest centralized The NewsMarket’s network operations using burstable Ethernet for bandwidth-intensive activities, including information and video sharing on the company’s media site. The solution delivers Internet speeds up to 1,000 Megabits per second and is backed by Qwest managed services and protected by encryption services, intrusion detection and a managed firewall.
