Port City Web Hosting Firm, Relocates Corporate Headquarters, Expands Website
Portsmouth, New Hampshire - (The Hosting News) - March 19, 2008 - Website hosting, design and development firm, Port City Web, has relocated its corporate offices, while devising two new businesses, and deploying significant upgrades to its web hosting platform.
The newly launched corporate website, was moved back to downtown Portsmouth, NH. The new location is at 500 Market Street, Suite 1E, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Located next door to The Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, and within walking distance to the heart of Downtown Portsmouth, the new location offers on-site parking, upgraded facilities, and easy access to route 95.
The new facility will also offer a ''decompression room'' where employees can play the latest video game or watch some television on one of the company's high-definition flat screen televisions during their break.
Erik Crago, President and CEO of Port City Web noted, ''We wanted to create a fun and enjoyable workplace for our team, who often work 10 to 12 hour days. By giving our employees tools to decompress during bad weather days, and close proximity to downtown for walks on nice days, we hope to strike a balance between hard work and play.''
To accommodate the increase in demand for business-class, eCommerce, and email hosting, Port City Web has invested over $100,000 in upgrades at its hosting facility. In this latest upgrade, HP servers were phased out and replaced with new Dell PowerEdge servers, with dual quad-core Xeon processors, large SCSI drives, redundant network cards, and tons of memory each. Networking equipment was also upgraded, including more firewalls running in active/passive failover to ensure websites are up and running in the case of a firewall failure. An additional data connection was added, and all the firewalls were upgraded to 1.5 GB of throughput. Mr. Crago added, ''Dell was great in working with us on this upgrade project, from financing to technical support; we're grateful for their assistance.''
To meet the needs and demands of customers, Port City Web has spun off two new businesses: Port City Hosting, LLC and New Hampshire eCommerce Fulfillment, LLC. Port City Hosting, LLC was born from the website and email hosting group within Port City Web. The new company will share Port City Web's new downtown Portsmouth offices and will host its servers at BayRing's Portsmouth co-location center.
New to the offerings will be eCommerce shopping cart hosting for a monthly fee. Beyond regular web hosting, Port City Hosting will be offering a fully featured shopping cart eCommerce website, with design options, for a monthly fee, similar to how people pay for web hosting.
Mr. Crago explained, ''This is web and email hosting with a very powerful shopping cart for a reduced monthly fee. We're going after those small businesses who want to stay local with their eCommerce, but who cannot afford a typical eCommerce investment. Of course they will have fewer options than a full-blown custom eCommerce implementation, but down the road when they're ready for more, we can help and we can add onto what they have rather than starting from scratch.''
To meet the demands for eCommerce fulfillment in the area, and to clearly separate those services from the website design and development services, Port City Web has purchased 3,500 square feet of warehouse and office space in Greenland, NH. In addition, Port City Web has created a new business, New Hampshire eCommerce Fulfillment, LLC, to handle all of the eCommerce fulfillment and shipping customers.
Mr. Crago remarked, ''Centrix Bank was really great to work with during this whole process. This was our first commercial real estate purchase and they helped to make the process go very smooth, in addition to a few other people involved. We expect New Hampshire eCommerce Fulfillment to do very well in the Greenland facility.''
Lastly, the firm has launched a new website for itself at www.PortCityWeb.com, designed to better portray the company's brand and capabilities with a more corporate look and feel. Mr. Crago concluded, ''We wanted it to be more representative of our current customer base and our target customers. The new site is a bit less artsy and more business-like, while still displaying our distinct style.''
Port City Web is a, full-service website hosting, design, development, and marketing company. Specializing in online commerce, also known as ecommerce, Port City Web provides cost effective electronic marketing tools that are built to work with current systems. Past and present clients include The University of New Hampshire, Born and Bicknell, Columbia University, Service Credit Union, NAPS, K2, Lonza Biologics and Smith and Wesson.
