The IPv6 Webcast focused on the topic of IPv6 Transition Today and Beyond: What Agencies Need to Consider. The webcast addressed the security capabilities and challenges with IPv6, how to define IPv6 capable to meet a specific agency's requirements and remain interoperable, the latest information and guidance to help with transition planning, and the requirements and policies set aside to meet the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) mandate.

As the June 2008 deadline quickly approaches, many agencies have made significant progress in transitioning to IPv6, and others are working towards meeting the U.S. Office of Management and Budget's mandate. Even with such success, there continues to be much more that agencies can learn about to help provide a smoother transition from IPv4 to IPv6 for their specific agency needs. Issues covered included: - What are the significant benefits of IPv6 to enable the Next Generation Internet? - What are the fundamental technology differences between IPv4 and IPv6 and why should agencies be concerned? - What are the key recommendations for creating an effective transition plan?

Doug Junkins, Vice President, IP Engineering for NTT America, joined Tim LeMaster, Director of Engineering Services for Juniper Networks, Erica Johnson, Director of the University of New Hampshire at InterOperability Lab, and David Kiegman, President of Command Federal, in discussing IPv6.
