HostingCon Welcomes New Location
July 25, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- As Web hosting conference and tradeshow HostingCon 2007 (www.hostingcon.com/2007) wraps up today, the overwhelming consent from organizers, attendees and vendors alike is that moving the conference from Las Vegas' The Mirage to Chicago's Navy Pier was a wise decision.
"We had a lot of complaints about Vegas, that it wasn't really business-friendly as far as what they were hoping to do with the show," says Frank Spaulding, managing director of HostingCon. "A lot of people said that it was difficult to do the networking thing, to get people to talk to them, because [at] the end of the day people were ready to take off and go gambling or go hit this show... there were a lot of distractions."
Ben Fisher, co-founder and VP of TechPad Agency, agrees with Spaulding, echoing his sentiment that Las Vegas was far too distracting to conduct business. "In Vegas, you can out there and do anything, there's lots of things out there to distract you," says Fisher.
However, despite the mostly positive feedback on HostingCon's new location, a few attendees seemed to prefer last year's venue over this year's. Bruce Templeton, president and CEO of Silicon Valley Web Hosting, says he preferred The Mirage as a venue because the conference and hotel were located in the same building. "I like last year more because it was efficient, and I'm all about efficiency," says Templeton.
Spaulding confirmed that next year's HostingCon 2008 would be held once again atChicago's Navy Pier.
