HostingCon Blog: The Future of Web Hosting Marketing

I just listened to a great, short talk by Derek Vaughan, Chief Marketing Officer of The TechPad Agency. Derek gave his vision of some key concepts hosting marketers will need to get their heads around if they’re to reach upcoming generations of web hosting customers.

Probably the biggest idea he reinforced several times during his presentation was to encourage marketers to begin thinking about their products and offerings in term of media properties, more so than traditional service providers. He said that marketers need to entertain, and think more about the audience and message more in terms of a media voice than ever.

He demonstrated a good example of non-traditional, even viral, marketing found at willitblend.com, where a simple video generated millions of impressions for a consumer blender manufacturer.

Derek also encouraged marketers to think in terms of value first, and profit second. Plus, hosting marketers should strive to find unique ways for users to interact with the brand, and by doing so build confidence and trust in the web host.

It was a great talk, small technical glitches aside. From the mumbles I heard leaving the room, it got a few folks thinking.
