Hosting Security Services Firm, SAVVIS, Develops Application Transport Services

St. Louis, Missouri - (The Hosting News) - December 12, 2007 - Virtualized and managed IP network services firm, SAVVIS, Inc., has released its Application Transport Services (ATS), a global, integrated, applications delivery service, designed to provide end-to end visibility and control of enterprise hosting, networking and security infrastructure.

SAVVIS' ATS services are enabled by SAVVIS' new Application Transport Network (ATN), a Tier 1 Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network serving approximately 20% of the world's Internet routes (announced separately today). The new ATN is the culmination of a major network and data center upgrade for which SAVVIS has worked closely with Cisco to enhance SAVVIS' global wide area network (WAN) and integrate it with SAVVIS' datacenter hosting area network (HAN) and its metropolitan area network (MAN), with a singular focus on optimizing the delivery of enterprise applications.

Bryan Doerr, CTO of SAVVIS offered, ''ATS extends our virtualization vision for the market, as customers can leverage as many of these managed services as they need without having to invest in any additional physical equipment. We continue to offer state of the art VPN services to our customers and, with our new ATN platform, are positioned to offer even greater ATS performance and visibility features in the future. When customers combine ATS with our server and storage management services, they experience the benefits of next generation managed application infrastructure.''

Key ATN performance enhancements include new Cisco core and edge routers that enable MPLS, high-speed Metro-Ethernet access, and enhanced end-to-end customer controlled QoS, which, when combined with SAVVIS' monitoring and management, enables high performance ATS services for public and private network enterprise needs.

New ATS features include network-based virtualized firewalls, distributed denial of service (DDOS) mitigation, network-based intrusion detection systems, virtualized load balancing and SSL acceleration, all delivered as high performance, flexible, managed services. Future plans call for additional connectivity services focused on application performance management and optimization, and enhanced visibility tools via SAVVIS' customer portal.

SAVVIS has designed ATS to deliver customer applications to their users over a broad range of connectivity options. Traffic may move from the hosted application, across a SAVVIS Metropolitan Ethernet Ring, to the corporate headquarters connected by low latency Metropolitan Ethernet. Additionally, end user connectivity is supported with options ranging from DSL up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Melanie Posey, Research Director at IDC noted, ''The industry is embracing the concept of low latency, application aware networks with customer-defined QoS levels and unique network embedded security services as the best way to serve enterprises' increasingly complex networking and application transport requirements. To achieve this, vendors must deliver highly reliable, global solutions that leverage an array of secure access methods ranging from DSL to Metropolitan Ethernet and offer the flexibility of managed and unmanaged services with 24/7 network monitoring.''

Operating a global network and 30 data centers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia encompassing approximately 1.3 million square feet of raised floor, SAVVIS offers customers a variety of flexible and cost-effective IT infrastructure services that can easily be mixed and interchanged. These include a broad portfolio of hosting services, enterprise network solutions, and managed security services. SAVVIS pioneered the industry's first virtualized IT utility services platform which delivers on-demand access to server cycles, storage capacity, network bandwidth, traffic management and load balancing.

Headquartered in St. Louis, Mo., SAVVIS operates a global network and 25 data centers in the United States, Europe and Asia encompassing approximately 1.4 million square feet. From its IT infrastructure platform, SAVVIS delivers a variety of flexible and cost-effective managed services to business and government enterprises, designed to be easily mixed and interchanged.
