Data Centers of Interxion, Selected for RealNetworks Growth
Schiphol-Rijk, The Netherlands – (The Hosting News) – January 30, 2009 – Digital entertainment services company, RealNetworks, Inc., has significantly increased its presence in the Interxion, carrier-neutral Frankfurt data centers, due to higher demand for services, and plans to expand its Interxion-based infrastructure by approximately 75 per cent.
Christoph Doppelmeier, Senior Manager, Global Infrastructure Operations, EMEA at RealNetworks remarked, ”We have grown with Interxion because they provide the high level of availability, scalability and connectivity we need to guarantee service to and bring us closer to our end-customer. From the beginning, Interxion has made every effort to meet RealNetworks’ challenging requirements. They have remained flexible and extremely customer-focused, especially with respect to speed of implementation and their ability to scale their operations as we scale ours.”

Since 2007, RealNetworks – famous for pioneering the Internet media industry with the RealPlayer and RealAudio applications – has hosted a variety of its online services from Interxion data centers. These include the company’s Music-On-Demand (MOD) services operated for European mobile carriers, as well as Video-On-Demand (VOD) services for web-based entertainment platforms.
Peter Knapp, Managing Director, Interxion Deutschland GmbH noted, ”We are pleased that Real Networks decided to build on their relationship with Interxion. For providers of content and online services, three factors are more or less essential: resilience, a high concentration of carriers, and an Internet exchange PoP. We provide all three as part of our broader customer service and infrastructure package.”
The Interxion campus in Frankfurt is situated close to the main fibre optics lines and gives access to over 70 carriers and more than 80 internet service providers. The fact that it connects 80% of the members of DE-CIX, the Frankfurt-based German Internet exchange, makes it Germany’s largest data hub.

Headquartered in Schiphol-Rijk, The Netherlands, Interxion serves its customers from 24 carrier-neutral data centers located in 13 cities and across 11 European countries.
