Aplus.net Web Hosting Firm, Introduces Web Design Solutions

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Overland Park, Kansas – (The Hosting News) – July 23, 2009 – Aplus.net web hosting company has introduced a new web design product to accompany its shared hosting services, designed to allow business owners to reach the masses through the Internet through a personalized and professional website.

Sharon Bruley, Web Design Manager at Aplus.net noted, “Ecommerce is booming and businesses are finding the Internet is a large source of revenue that is much easier to manage than a brick-n-mortar store. By offering web design with no strings attached, business owners have complete control over what direction they take their website and their business.”

Reducing costs and application integration are currently the top priorities for small-to-medium-size business owners online, according to Emergent Research (http://genylabs.typepad.com/small_biz_labs/2009/06/small-and-midsized-business-software-usage-trends.html). However, only 41 percent of small-business owners operated an online storefront in Sept. 2008, according to a study by Warrilow and Co., which means a majority are unable to reach the 1.6 billion Internet users. (http://www.warrillow.com/Images2/Article_usNews_20080926.pdf).

The Internet provides many benefits for SMBs that include global market penetration, brand enhancement, 24/7/365 support and availability and simplified data collection, just to name a few.

Web Design from Aplus.net is designed to allow SMBs to take advantage of these many opportunities. In addition, SMBs own their designed website-unlike many other website design houses- and may select from 4,000 design templates for full personalization. SMBs will reduce costs by retaining ownership of their website and can seamlessly launch and manage the site through one of Aplus.net’s shared hosting plans. Each design package includes 5 web pages, a free website consultation and a 12-day delivery guarantee so the website can launch on-time. Packages start at $50/month for 12 months or $500/year for HTML-based websites, while new Flash-based websites start at $80/month for 12 months or $850/year.

In addition to standard design packages, Aplus.net offers a variety of service upgrades such as eCommerce, SEO services, maintenance plans and more providing customers with additional revenue generating tools.

Aplus.net specializes in helping small businesses build an online customer base with a comprehensive range of services that includes web design, shared hosting, online marketing, eCommerce, domain name registration, and more. Aplus.net has received multiple awards for excellence, including the prestigious CNET Editors’ Choice Award, and has been featured in top U.S. business publications such as Forbes, Entrepreneur, Black Enterprise, and PC Magazine.

Intermedia Web Hosting Surpasses 200,000 Premium Exchange Mailboxes

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

New York, New York – (The Hosting News) – July 21, 2009 – Hosting over 200,000 premium Microsoft Exchange mailboxes, Intermedia has revealed a sign of growing optimism among the company’s customer base of 11,000 small and medium-sized businesses.

The 200,000+ total puts Intermedia ahead of any other Exchange hosting provider. Intermedia hosts more than 400,000 mailboxes overall. The premium mailboxes use Microsoft’s full MAPI license, which includes a downloadable copy of Microsoft Outlook, the power to share calendars, and other features essential to business users.

Serguei Sofinski, chief executive officer at Intermedia remarked, ”It’s still too early to tell whether the economy is getting back on track. Intermedia’s growth indicates that small and medium-sized businesses aren’t standing by, waiting for the economy to turn around or the stimulus to kick in. Our customers are optimistic about what the future holds – they are taking concrete steps to improve their business.”

Intermedia’s recent performance parallels trends in the small and medium-sized business climate:

  • In Q4 2008 and Q1 2009, Intermedia saw slower mailbox growth in its existing customer base. Higher than average numbers of accounts pared back the number of mailboxes they use – a reflection of staffing cuts enacted in response to the economy. This phenomenon tapered off in Q2 2009, signaling that many small and medium-sized businesses are stabilizing operations.
  • An offering aimed at “corporate refugees” – business people who left or were laid off from large enterprises – experienced 240 percent monthly account growth in Q2 2009. Intermedia attributes the spike to growing entrepreneurial spirit among displaced workers. The offering combines a hosted Exchange email account with synchronization to a Blackberry, iPhone or Windows Mobile smartphone.
  • Intermedia’s revenue and mailbox count continued to grow in Q1 2009, but the pace slowed to a level similar to that seen following the dot-com bust. In Q2 2009, the growth rate for new accounts more than doubled from the prior quarter. Q2 2009 “revenue per mailbox” also grew as existing customers provided Intermedia’s Blackberry, iPhone and Windows Mobile smartphone synchronization to additional employees.

A profitable 14-year old company, Intermedia has grown organically and without debt. The company attributes its consistent quarterly gains in part to its Exchange Concierge service that manages customers’ transition to Intermedia from other hosting providers or an in-house server. Typically in less than an hour, customers are set up without disruption to email or other files.

Mr. Sofinski added, ”We are passionate about providing small and medium-sized businesses with the same communications and collaboration experience a Fortune 500 company can provide its employees. But we need to deliver our services in a way that is simple to set up, use and manage. That’s the bar we set for ourselves and how we can best help our customers put technology to work.”

Intermedia recently exhibited at the Microsoft World Partner Conference (WPC) in New Orleans.

Founded in 1995, Intermedia is the leading provider of business email including Microsoft Exchange hosting to the small and medium business market. Intermedia specializes in providing enterprise-grade solutions through its world class infrastructure and service to small and medium businesses at a price they can afford. Businesses looking for a more cost-effective and manageable solution for enterprise-class email and collaboration solutions should visit Intermedia’s Web site.

Web Hosting Provider, LeaseWeb, Powers Heineken.nl Web Site

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – (The Hosting News) – July 16, 2009 – One of Europe’s largest dedicated hosting providers, LeaseWeb, has been chosen to power the Heineken The Netherlands launch of its new multifunctional website, Heineken.nl.

LeaseWeb installed the hardware and software for the website, a VMware-based hosting solution, in LeaseWeb’s dedicated space within the green data-center environment of EvoSwitch in the Amsterdam region.

The website Heineken.nl is a portal that not only provides information in the form of a comprehensive musical and sports agenda, but also features a web shop where you can reserve and purchase various extras, including music downloads and tickets to sold-out concerts. Visitors to Heineken.nl can use so-called Heinekene’s – the savings system at Heineken.nl – to pay for those special offers. The new Heineken portal caters is intended to enhance the level of enjoyment for people going out in the Netherlands, for both music lovers and sports enthusiasts.

Heineken.nl was created in close collaboration with well-established partners, including LeaseWeb. LeaseWeb provides Heineken The Netherlands with a VMware-based hosting solution for the website. Within this solution, several VMware Virtual Machines (virtual servers) run on the VMware-based virtual hosting platform developed by LeaseWeb. LeaseWeb also provides the necessary hardware-based servers as well as network equipment, such as a firewall and a load balancer.

LeaseWeb’s engineers worked to ensure that the migration of Heineken.nl to the new virtual hosting solution at LeaseWeb could be completed in one night.

Ruud Mous, sales director of LeaseWeb noted, ”Our engineers have extensive knowledge of VMware, and will – where necessary – provide support to Heineken The Netherlands with regard to maintenance and/or supplements to the existing web environment.”

LeaseWeb’s own worldwide hosting network using telecom carriers and Internet exchanges ensures that consumers can make unlimited use of the Heineken.nl website. LeaseWeb’s network has ample bandwidth, currently more than 750 Gigabits per second, which benefits websites with heavy traffic, multimedia applications and/or streaming video.

Mr. Mous asks, ”Why were virtual servers used for this website? Virtual hosting is particularly attractive to the enterprise market and the higher segment of the small and medium-sized business sector. A corporate hosting environment such as Heineken.nl, in particular, benefits from a virtualized solution compared to a purely hardware-based solution. Examples of such benefits include scalability and availability. It also makes migrations much simpler, and it does not affect the applications.”

LeaseWeb uses VMware for this virtual hosting solution, since its stability is crucial to the corporate market. Mous: VMware is the Rolls Royce of virtual hosting. This is state-of-the-art virtualization software, which makes it ideal for use in enterprise and large corporate environments.

Mr. Mous adds that LeaseWeb’s green data center environment is also in agreement with the sustainable market approach that is being implemented by an increasingly large number of corporate businesses. ”We have a dedicated space within EvoSwitch in the Amsterdam region. This space benefits from substantial energy savings in the data center compared to conventional data centers. Furthermore, EvoSwitch uses green energy and residual CO2 emissions are compensated for by investments in tree-planting and biogas projects.”

Heineken.nl has a large amount of musical content. The download shop offers more than 2,500 CDs and 650 DVDs, and more than 500 downloads are available. There is also a web shop where you can find a variety of gifts in the form of Heineken gadgets, such as clothing, beer glasses, bags and wristwatches. Heineken.nl also features a ticket shop operated in collaboration with Ticket Online, where visitors can order tickets online for (musical) events, for example.

The website allows consumers to pay with a so-called Heineken E-Card, a full-fledged VISA credit card specially designed and customized for Heineken. They can also use the E-Card to save. This E-Card is therefore the payment and savings method at Heineken.nl. With each purchase using the Heineken E-Card, the card holder collects that make the buyer eligible for a variety of special offers. In addition to the e-offers and the extensive musical and sports agenda, Heineken.nl also features a Pub Search Engine that allows consumers to find the 2,000 largest Heineken pubs in the Netherlands, with a description, address details and itinerary for each pub.

The beer brewer views Heineken.nl as a logical initiative that complements the brand. Herwin van den Berg, marketing director of Heineken The Netherlands: The primary objective of Heineken.nl is not to sell more beer, but rather to encourage our customers to feel even more strongly connected to the brand by offering them tangible benefits, priority and privileges, in order to make their night out even more enjoyable.

LeaseWeb is an international provider of hosting solutions that is primarily geared towards the professional market. The company is among the top-20 hosting providers worldwide and its services include server virtualization, dedicated servers, collocation, streaming, webhosting, and domain name registration. LeaseWeb is the proprietor of a first-class network that offers a bandwidth of more than 750 Gbps, spanning four data centers in the Amsterdam region via major telecom carriers. LeaseWeb is also present via Internet exchanges in Amsterdam, Londen, Frankfurt, New York, Brussel, Kopenhagen, Parijs, Budapest, Boekarest, Warschau, Praag, Bratislava, Milaan, Wenen, Stockholm, Oslo, Zumlrich and Madrid. This way, LeaseWeb enables companies around the world to create and continue their online presence in a simple and affordable manner. Rackspace Hosting Releases Public API for Cloud Servers

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Houston, Texas – (The Hosting News) – July 15, 2009 – The Cloud Servers API beta solution has premiered at web hosting provider, Rackspace Hosting, as part of the company’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering.

The service provides inexpensive compute capacity that can be instantly sized allowing businesses to pay only for
what it uses – as needed. Through the open, standards-based API, Rackspace Cloud customers can now manage their cloud infrastructure with greater control and flexibility. The API, for example, enables elastic scenarios as users can write code that programmatically detects load and scales the number of server instances up and down.

The Rackspace Cloud solicited feedback and conducted intensive testing with its partners and cloud developers to help ensure that the community shaped the API. With today’s announcement, users now have control panel and programmatic access to the company’s cloud infrastructure services.

Michael Mayo, iPhone application developer noted, ”It’s been a great experience to collaborate with the Rackspace Cloud team on the development of the Cloud Servers API. Working together with the Rackspace team enabled me to develop my application much more quickly. I’m very pleased with the open feedback process as it makes my work a lot easier.”

The Cloud Servers API will introduce four new features including:

- Server Metadata – Supply server-specific metadata when an instance is created that can be accessed via the API.

- Server Data Injection – Specify files when instance is created that will be injected into the server file system before startup. This is useful, for example, when inserting SSH keys, setting configuration files, or storing data that you want to retrieve from within the Cloud Server itself.

- Host Identification – The Cloud Servers provisioning algorithm has an anti-affinity property that attempts to spread out customer VMs across hosts. Under certain situations, Cloud Servers from the same customer may be placed on the same host. Host identification allows you to programmatically detect this condition and take appropriate action.

- Shared IP Groups – While Rackspace has always supported shared IPs, it’s been made simpler with the creation of Shared IP Groups and the ability to enable high availability configurations.

Rackspace Cloud customers will be able to manage their Cloud Servers or Cloud Files accounts anytime, anywhere on their iPhones thanks to an application built off the APIs by developer Michael Mayo. The application is expected to be available in the App Store within a month.

With the API, developers can create applications for the Rackspace Cloud which can automatically access compute power as required. The Cloud Servers API also allows developers to work with partners on pre-built applications.

David Day, CTO, Zeus Technology offered, ”After testing, it is apparent the Cloud Servers API was created to meet the needs of the community. The REST API has a complete feature set and is easy to use. We are excited to be building on such a robust platform.”

Emil Sayegh, General Manager, The Rackspace Cloud added, ”With the launch of our API, we’re looking forward to working with our partners and the developer community to create a powerful cloud ecosystem which we believe will generate new tools and applications to make cloud hosting even easier and more efficient. We see programmatic control as essential for igniting an ecosystem around the Rackspace Cloud. It’s a key tool for generating the next big thing in cloud because it gives developers the power and control to bring their great ideas to fruition.”

The Cloud Servers API is implemented using a RESTful web service interface. Aiming to build a cohesive approach to all products in the Rackspace Cloud suite, Cloud Servers shares a common token authentication system that allows seamless access between products and services.

Launched earlier this year, Cloud Servers is a compute service that provides server capacity in the cloud to businesses of all sizes and leverages key technology developed by Slicehost, LLC, a Rackspace wholly-owned subsidiary. Until today, interactions with Cloud Servers only occurred via the Rackspace Cloud Control Panel (GUI) and now programmatically via the Cloud Servers API.

The Rackspace Cloud provides on-demand scalable website, application and storage hosting backed by Fanatical Support. Through its suite of cloud solutions, Cloud Sites, Cloud Files and Cloud Servers, The Rackspace Cloud enables astute developers and IT managers to minimize the hassles, upfront investments and high costs associated with dedicated hardware, while offering the ability to easily scale hosting resources.
