(The Hosting News) – Wireless carrier Verizon on Tuesday unveiled its latest Data Breach Investigation Report – detailing cyber espionage attacks during 2012 that primarily included ones considered financially motivated (75%).

Falling behind the top category were attacks considered “state-affiliated espionage campaigns” which accounted for 20%.

“The bottom line is that unfortunately, no organization is immune to a data breach in this day and age,” commented Wade Baker, principal author of the report via a company news release.

Meanwhile, the report identified industries most affected by cyber breaches. Accounting for 21.7% of attacks was the retail industry followed manufacturing (12%) and information (10.4%). While the retail market was primarily affected by financial breaches, espionage campaigns plagued manufacturing.

To deal with the increasing threats, Verizon detailed a range of areas to focus on including data loss prevention, boundary defense, malware defenses, application software security and more.
