(The Hosting News) – Popular cloud storage provider Mailbox on Friday announced the expansion of its company portfolio, noting it had added email app Mailbox to the mix.

“Like many of you, when we discovered Mailbox we fell in love—it was simple, delightful, and beautifully engineered. Many have promised to help us with our overflowing inboxes, but the Mailbox team actually delivered,” stated the company via a blog post.

As an application, Mailbox provides users with capabilities such as swipe to delete, cloud checking, snoozing and more.

Transaction figures weren’t revealed in the blog post but a report from All Things D noted the amount was over $50 million, citing reports from both TechCrunch and GigaOM.

Meanwhile, a report from Forbes.com compared the acquisition to Facebook’s previous buy of popular photo sharing service Instagram. Like the above, Dropbox is expected to run Mailbox as a separate entity from their cloud storage platform – however, it is possible that features of Mailbox could have some integration with Dropbox services at a later date.

Dropbox is among the most popular cloud storage solutions in the market – providing users with 2GB of space. Its competitors include Google Drive, iCloud and SkyDrive.
