View Full Version : Time Warner Bandwidth?
benmwah 02-07-2004, 02:45 AM | Has anyone had any experience purchasing bandwidth from Time Warner? Latency issues? Packet loss?
The datacenter I'm at has Time Warner fiber lit in house and I'm considering purchasing some bandwidth from them. |
Argohost 02-07-2004, 09:39 PM Time Warners bandwidth is one of the best.! |
vigor 02-07-2004, 09:51 PM | Time Warner is up there, i've never had any past problems with them. |
benmwah 02-08-2004, 02:02 AM Is there a certain sales rep with Time Warner you guys work with? |
qm8309 02-08-2004, 07:19 AM well i have 0 experience with time warner as a transit provider, however i do know for a fact that my time warner cable service here in houston sucks on latency and uptime. and many of my friends/neighbors have the same opinion. so that brand name does not sound good to me. =P |
Dragoon 02-08-2004, 08:16 AM TimeWarner Telecom and TimeWarner Cable/RoadRunner are two completely seperate entities.
RoadRunner uses ATDN (AOL Transit Data Network) not TWT. Also, poor cable performance can be caused by several factors. I suggest reading up on DOCSIS.
Last time I checked, TimeWarner only owns about 30% of TWT. There seems to be no move to acquire control of the company or to merge it with ATDN. TW doesn't use TWT for IP transit or telephone service on any of its cable networks. TW recently started offering phone service over its cable systems in some markets. This is through a partnership with Sprint and MCI, not TWT.
My experience with TWT is that the QoS is good but they are expensive - at least where I am. YMMV |
FatalSw1tch 02-10-2004, 09:19 AM I have experance with both. First being the RoadRunner in the Milwaukee, WI area. One 12 span of downtime in 3 years is awesome in my book.
TWT though a collocation provider that my friend had. we used to play some counter strike on that server. latenecy was good by far. |
rusko 02-10-2004, 03:52 PM imho: not worth the money.

RoadRunner in Southern Ohio is awesome. We havent been down at all except for when we got hit by a tornato a few years back. Also, RoadRunner's national helpdesk is awesome also. They answer your questions without making you feel stupid, or like your wasting their time. |
I've had great luck with Roadrunner here in South Carolina. Only two instances of downtime in the past two years - both related to power outages (not RR's fault). Sitting on AOL's network is pretty sweet, too. They have great connectivity to major providers. |

sethgarnar 02-12-2004, 03:40 PM I have a t1 from TWT, it has only gone down once since they put it in 3 years ago( and that was the other day). Price is a little high but they also have good support, much better support than when I get from my other provider AT&T. |
rusko 02-12-2004, 05:57 PM not very tough, since att only provides an automated ticket closing interface =]

KarlZimmer 02-12-2004, 06:48 PM I only have good things to say about TIme Warner, great product, great support, although I think their pricing has gotten a little high lately. |
z280 Hosting 02-14-2004, 12:39 AM Complete Agreement to that. |
HostMaster1 02-14-2004, 12:44 PM Why would you want to do business with the company that wants to put every single independant ISP out of business and control the internet industry. Ever hear of AOL.
You couldn't pay me to take bandwidth from that company |
sethgarnar 02-16-2004, 03:33 AM TWT is not AOL, very far from it infact. |
Timewarner telecom is one of the best bandwith providers ive ever been with, i have a 550 down / 250 up connection with timewarner telecom, and simply put its amazing. |
