Based on Apple requirements for live streaming application to be sold in the AppStore we were able to find only VLC as a source for our HTTP Live streaming server farm. VLC let say works, but WME and FME are much more stable. DO you know if it is possible to use for HTTP Luve streaming hosting other sources than VLC?
I hope this is the right forum - again, I am asking about the source for HTTP Live streaming hosting - what app can we use except VLC? And we are talking about live streaming, not prerecorded one.

RTMP is a pretty standard live streaming protocol.
Flash Media Server, Wowza, Red5
All 3 could do the job.
RTMP is used for video serving, either live streaming or youtube like.
I bet VLC can handle that too, but you would have to double check that as I am not sure.

I'd go for RTMP!
Flash Media Server, Wowza are the ones i'd choose. Start of with an development server and get to grips with them.

Thank you for the responses.
We do have all the technologies, including FMS, Wowza, Red5 and beta MS which supports iPhone/iPad streaming.
To stream live (over 10 minutes) content over 3G and to be compliant with Apple guidance to get to the AppStore you have to use their (Apple's) software. We've got all it working and apps in the AppStore but the VLC component to feed Apple's software is not very stable - so why I've asked question above.
To make it simple - if you'll just use Wowza streaming and submit that App to the AppStore you'll get rejected (for streaming over 10 minutes over 3G).
It may exist some work around (with Wowza), but so far we found (even mutibit streaming) incompatible with the Apple's stream validation.

VLC keeps killing us. Crashes all the time, unlike WME and FME, but I need an Mpeg2 stream - still can't find anything else.
