Any UK data centres like to give us a quote? Thank you louey 04-30-2001, 03:50 PM I think bandwidth is too expensive in the UK, it would probably be cheaper to co-locate in the US. If needed get on a plane and fly out there, it would probably work out alot cheaper and you could have a mini holiday whilst you are at it. But I suppose if you would regularly need to access the computer this option may become just as expensive. louey 04-30-2001, 03:55 PM But if you want me to name one ... we use http://www.level3.co.uk/uk/ at work, we host most all of the European and Asian Altavista web sites there, although we are planning on moving them all to the US soon due to the bandwidth cost here. Shirley 04-30-2001, 04:13 PM Yes, I know the cost of bandwidth is a problem - but isn't it coming down? Anyone using a colo facility in the UK that they can recommend? What are the costs and bandwidth fees. Appreciate any feedback Thanks peter g 05-01-2001, 07:11 AM I would suggest having a look at http://www.bigbytez.co.uk under the reseller section as some of those listed provide co-location facilities and dedicated-servers. It depends on yur bandwidth requirements, but your are right in saying that bandwidth prices in the UK are dropping and you should be able to get a good deal now on co-lo in the UK. Typical Costs £99 - £150 Per month with 20Gb Bandwidth. Peter Shirley 05-01-2001, 07:48 AM Thanks Peter G. Can anyone recommend a specific data centre, through experience and provide costs? Perhaps this forum doesn't get that many UK visitors? When the same question is asked of US facilities theres usually plenty of response. peter g 05-01-2001, 08:07 AM <<Admin edit : post deleted for breaching forum guidelines (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?action=forum-rules)>> I actually said look at Bigbytez to find a host and was asked for details of any. So if thats breaking the rules I am sorry :( Maybe I should do like everyone else does and just promote a company in my signature:stickout Peter -Edward- 05-01-2001, 10:42 AM http://www.xcalibre.co.uk - Have a very good reputation as do www.legend.co.uk ..... Stay far away from the likes of fasthosts and webfusion. Vince 05-01-2001, 12:29 PM Rackspace have a London NOC now. Very impressive too. Their network can do 1Gb/s. They charge around £2.80/Gb. The only bad thing is, they do dedicated servers only. No co-lo. :( Still definately worth a look. Regards, Vince. nightmare2 05-01-2001, 02:13 PM I have used them for 2 years never a problem.... www.dsvr.co.uk slightly more expensive - but you get what you pay for. I also us site5.com never a problem - plus vince (previous post) lives in the UK . Cheers Iain Shirley 05-01-2001, 03:58 PM Thank you everyone. Some very useful links - and I just got yours peter G before it was edited!! Has anyone used interhost.co.uk? Ideally what I'd like to hear is "We use this data centre blah blah and we don't like or we do like them because....... The prices are........" taki 05-02-2001, 11:18 AM You can also have a look at http://www.dedicated-servers.co.uk/colo.html nopzor 05-02-2001, 02:41 PM abovenet as a good noc in london. pm me if you'd like the name of a good rep there. raj. louey 05-03-2001, 08:27 PM www.uk2.net claim to be the cheapest and colocation starts this week. They might be worth checking out. jonny b 05-04-2001, 05:51 AM Definately not! You dont really want to use UK2 for anything! They're bad enough at domains, never mind servers!! Imagine only getting eMail support for a dedicated machine....i dont think so..... Yes....we'll reboot your machine sometime this month :stickout !! Cheers, louey 05-04-2001, 02:24 PM but uk2.net claim to have 24/7 access to your machine so if you need a reboot and live in london it might not be too bad. People with co-location dont really need that much support. But personally I still think the best option is to host in the US and dont bother about uk until the bandwidth prices come WAAAAYYY down. reason 05-09-2001, 08:06 PM I would not touch uk2 with someone elses bargepole. drhonk 05-09-2001, 11:42 PM If you looking for a first class data center, I'd choose either Level 3 or Exodus. I think Exodus has two or three data centers in London. I know their prices are kinda high, but most of the time you can negotiate with them to get a better price for both rack space and bandwidth. |
