Man, 85, becomes lost and drives golf cart onto interstate
The Associated Press

December 27, 2002, 8:19 AM EST

SUN CITY CENTER -- An 85-year-old man became lost while driving his golf cart home from a doctor's appointment inside a retirement community and wound up on a busy interstate, sheriff's officials said.

The man drove along Interstate 75 near Tampa for about five miles, his golf cart never topping 20 mph, officials said. His identity was not released and he was not issued any tickets, even though driving a golf cart on a roadway is illegal.

"We just did it as a citizen call,'' said Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy Matthew Resch, who drove the man home.

Paths are built to accommodate golf carts inside the Sun City Center community, which is located near many major roadways.

The man was not injured, officials said.

How can you drive along a highway or a parkway without noticing the thousands of cars passing you in excess of 60 mph? If you are that senile, you shouldn't be given a cart, what if you run over some frail old lady?

Poor guy. I wonder if he was getting Alzethimers disease? :(

What I wanna know about all this is where the guy was going in the first place.

He was going home, from his doctor appointment in the same residential area that had a golf course.

Fitting place for a doctors office. Maybe they'd actually show up on time for their appoinments if they didn't have to fight traffic for their tee times. The 85 year old man was probably 30 when he arrived for his appointment. Who knew he'd lose his mind waiting?

I guess it's better for an 85 year old going 20 mph than a 20 year old doing 85 mph :D:D:D

Well... I guess SWR has finally hit the bottom of the barrel... First the golf lessons and now driving a gold cart down the side of the highway... We really need to put him in the WHT retirement home :bawling:

Sun City is full of people that drive their golf carts on the road. Its totally legal to drive on any of the roads there on a gulf cart -- even with regular cars going 30-40 miles/hour.

Sadly, I know this for a fact... my parents live in Sun City for 9 months out of the year (Rest up in Michigan (where I'm originally from) and they're really not that old - mom is 46, step father is 56).

Ahhh the snow birds :D

I drive through interstate 192 twice a day - to and from work - and during holidays all the cars are SUVs with non-Florida plates, driven by soccer moms at 20 mph on the left lane, desperately seeking a gas station that sells gas 2 cents cheaper than the average of $1.55 (downtown Orlando prices are 20 cents less) or trying to kamikaze their way across 3 lanes of traffic to the nearest McDonalds :D

Hey SWR is 51, not 85 85, 51, what's the difference? :D

Maybe the old guy was on crack, conveniently bought from Headsurfer's new business venture: CrackShack.

The difference is my age.

And that reminds me of one of my favorite songs, "What's my age again" by Blink182:

I took her out it was Friday night
I wore cologne to get the feeling right
We started making out and she took off my pants
But then I turned on the TV
And that's about the time that she walked away from me
Nobody likes you when you're 23
And are still more amused by TV shows
What the hell is ADD?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?
Then later on, on the drive home
I called her mom from a pay phone
I said I was the cops
And your husband's in jail
This state looks down on sodomy
And that's about the time that bitch hung up on me
Nobody likes you when your 23
And are still more amused by prank phone calls
What the hell is caller ID?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?
And that's about the time she walked away from me
Nobody likes you when your 23
And you still act like you're in Freshman year
What the hell is wrong with me?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?
That's about the time she broke up with me
No one should take themselves so seriously
With many years ahead to fall in line
Why would you wish that on me?
I never want to act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

LOL - Blink 182 is awesome :P

Well WAS until they sold out :p

Who did they sold out to?

adam
12-28-2002, 04:31 PM
They used to be quite good, used to write all of there own songs, used to play wherever the fans were..

Now they play wherever the money is, I dont think they write all of their own songs anymore..

Now back when Adam's Song, and Whats my age again were out, thats when they were good...

Just my opinion, dont hurt me for it :(

No, I agree. The same happened to all indie bands. Take Limp Biscuit for example. They were huge in Jax.

Ya Limp Bizkit sold out to, which resulted in the guitarist leaving.. to bad though because he is one of the best guitarists ive seen..

Reminds me of the David Lynch's movie The Straight Story, about a guy who sets off on a 300-mile trip to see his sick brother -- on a riding lawn mower.

It's a good film, by the way, and even those who don't usually like Lynch's work (stuff like Lost Highway and Blue Velvet) might be pleasantly surprised.

I'm just surprised DizixCom beat TC with this remark:
The 85 year old man was probably 30 when he arrived for his appointment. Who knew he'd lose his mind waiting?

Acroplex

Hey, I acknowledged DizixCom's wit :D

But don't tell me you didn't like:
"I guess it's better for an 85 year old going 20 mph than a 20 year old doing 85 mph"

ATST

I don't know about that, I was 20 once, and used to drive 85 (or more) everywhere.
As soon as I chipped, and modded my Truck, I went out and did 120. Of course my tires (Pirrelli Scorpian Zero's) were rated for 149 mph, and the Truck was newer then.

Taking the higway was the most direct route to Taco Bell. If I were to take the golf course, I couldn't even get to Taco Bell. And they don't let golf carts on the sidewalk. So the interstate was the only logical choice.

It seems there is a lot of wasted space right next to the interstate where no one drives. Surely one lone golf cart could go unoticed for the 6.4 miles to Taco Bell. But noooooooooo . . . . let's take this poor dilusional sole to some home because he doesn't know what he's doing.

Going to Taco Bell!!!

Is that so wrong? :bawling:

Yes, Taco Bell is bad for the arteries. Both the human and the traffic type. :D
