I'm using a colo plan $70/32GB with 5 IPs (no Rank Fee), but the internet connection provided is not stable at all, I want to change the provider, any suggestion that I can have the similar rate? My box is a book-size server which smaller than a mini-tower.

Thanks,

Kevin

I have a feeling we should put a link at the top of this forum:

"Find Out More About Cheap Hosting"

it should read something like this:

Cheap hosting is pointless, your ISP has fixed costs for the service they offer you, if they do not make enough money from YOU they do not have enough money to make an efficient network.
Some ISP's will attempt to undercut EVERYBODY, in the attempt of getting as many customers as possible, where as some of the clever ISP's will charge slightly more in the attempt of getting the word out that they are reliable, but in the process they can aford faster routers, better hardware, etc...

Going cheap is just not worth it, ive tried cheap 3 times so far.

CobaltRack - good machine, no network, because for the price I paid, they couldnt aford to upgrade the network.
***** - good machine, normally good network, byt again, i didnt pay them enough to emply support techies, therefore, the network goes down, it goes down for a long while, the techies donot know what they are talking about, because they cant afford to employ professionals.
DemonInternet (UK) - again, i didnt pay enough, they refused to support anything other than Windows 95! because i didnt pay them enough to employ NT techies!

I hope this is enough to put you off cheap hosting and pay somebody what they are worth for a service.

Would you go out and pay $100 for a car in the hope it runs smoothly? NO then dont expect the same from your ISP !

Peace Out !

Good point! Everyone is shouting "cheap! cheaper!", some are offering virtual accounts for 1.95$ and dedicated servers for 69$.
I wonder why there isn't a host which pays you money for hosting your site!

I agree with your points in regards to dedicated and shared environments - But he's asking about colocation.
From his description, his machine sounds like a 1u, or possibly a 2u.
And he isn't really using all that much bandwidth.
So, since he's providing the server himself, and it's using so little rackspace and so little bandwidth, your initial expence in providing colocation isn't that high, so you in turn can pass on the saving to your client.
Very cheap colo with a very stable network is entirely possible, and theres still room for profit to be made.

Regards,
Vince.

yes, ill agree with you somewhat there Vince, as I was typing I will admit I was thinking from a dedicated server perspective, I would probably be prepared to pay $100-$130 per month for the space and bandwidth alone and a very minimal setup charge.

It is possible to do a colocation for around $100 a month, assuming whoever is hosting you does not have a high fixed cost per server.

Currently shopping rates on colo and the degree that they vary is unbelievable. It looks like the best prices are running around $150 for 50/g 1u nonmanaged.

Also, cbaker17:

Why is it not allowed for him to advertise, but then your sig has ads embedded within it? Or are you the host of this forum which would then make since :)

The reason hosts can not advertise "explicitly" in this forum is because this is a non advertising forum. You may read the forum rules here ( http://webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?action=forum-rules ). Hosts are allowed to advertise "implicitly" by using signature (some rules for signature apply though). Anyway, welcome abroad.... :D

cheers,
:beer: -> it's back... , though different! :)

They offer 100 gigs of b/w for $300 a month. Basically $3 per gig.

I'm pretty sure RackSpace only does dedicated servers.

And of all threads to bring back up -- the one I broke the rules in ;)

Rackspace.com does colocation, or at least they did. We have a couple of customers that have moved from there.

thanks all of your responses... i have sent the server to Tera-byte in mid-May. However, if they services won't be satisfied, I still would consider the packages/company here/emailed to me in future.

Again, that's all of your kind help! =)
