Hi, I was wondering if the following is possible:

I am sat at a machine behind a proxy and firewall, the proxy is controlled by a third party and has "rating software" installed on it, thus denying access to certain sites, I do not want to allow the system to bypass the proxy but i was wondering if it would be possible to use a second proxy server outside of the first proxy server to request the information, the situation will look as follows.

Workstation > Border Proxy > External Proxy > Remote Site

at the moment it is:

Workstation > Border Proxy > Remote Site

is it possible to do it? if so, how can it be done?

Currently:
Workstation > Secure Proxy > Site > Denied
Required:
Workstation > Secure Proxy > Unsecure Proxy > Site > Allowed

I don't know how you configured your proxy..
in my case, since my puter is behind a proxy server and my bro. set it up with access rules, permissons and activity logs and they block most of the offending sites :bawling:

what i do is, when they are not home i just walk up to the proxy server and edit the access rules and permissons :D

xtstrike,

The only way to do it is to bypass the Border Proxy or edit the access rules. All traffic is still passed through the Border Proxy regardless if you add unsecure proxies or not.

editing the router configuration is not really possible, it is in a high security building protected by a password only 1 person knows and that person isnt me!

i was thinking it would let the trafic through, it is only http traffic and I would think the secure router would think the traffic was comming from the unsecure router and not the banned site, kind of like a second proxy hiding the real source of the data.

because Cyber Patrol block a varying array of web sites which I would appreciate they would not block.

we have a 128k lease line at this site here which i have full control of, but the Leased T1 is on a router out of my control :-(

Just to reason my request, they blocked www.theregister.co.uk just because they made an article that talked negatively about Cyber Patrol !! - talk about abuse of power?

I understand where your coming from. The people at Surf Control (peeps that make Cyber Patrol) ... do seem to be overly aggressive as per 'blocking' offensive content.

Although I've not found anything to directly by-pass Server-Side proxies - I have found that using Lynx always works :) Heh. Its a temporary fix...

BUT ... use say Secure CRT on your client...

Login to your webserver ... bash# lynx www.site.com

Haha, of course - Test only browsing.. BUT - it works. For sites/servers that proxy and log IRC traffic etc. IRC over SSH is also handy.

I'm NOT trying to give you ways to 'hax0r' around the system... Security systems exist for a reason BUT sometimes they're a 'bit' overly cautious.

I've configured Cyber Patrol on MSP 2.0 numerous times - and I always end up with irritating email from people trying to get into every day sites.

Oh well. Such is life.

one slight problem with SSH, i cant get out of the firewall to SSH :-(

im just going to have to takein my 56k modem and slap it onto my machine, woohoo, a simple solution :-) the only problem is, the speed wont be great :-(
