Hey, I just got a shell from a friend on a Verio dedicated server, and what can i say, I cried at the speed, it made my eyes water, i got a ping average of 3.2ms to ftp.UU.Net

The entire experience was awesome, im still in awe over it.

It downloaded the test file from uu.net in a flash.

Well I suppose I need to ask really, is this the kind of service you get when you pay $1000 per month for a dedicated server?

And does anybody here have any servers with Verio with similar experiences?

What i heard is that Verio uptime is really good. But in terms of ping time & hops, weinbar is better for me & my site visitors :)

Weinbar is about 230ms & is 11 hops away. Verio is 300ms and also 11 hops away.

I had a *virtual* server account in a shared server environment. We had intermittant problems with their network, with our forum members (and me) getting bounced around the Verio network internally without ever making it to our server. While Digital Nation, which Verio purchased a few years ago, used to get very high marks here and elsewhere on the quality of their dedicated service, there have been some recent complaints that DN's quality is in a decline. Frankly: if you're paying $1,000/mo for a server, I expect response time to be measured in minutes, not hours. If you can't find someone with a Verio dedicated server that tells you their support is excellent, true 24/7/365, and that they respond to support requests in under an hour, I'd look elsewhere. I never thought of going with them when we moved to a dedicated server (we're with qwk.net now).

I am looking into a dedicated server for my new hosting biz. At my "real" full time job..we use both a dedicated NT box, as well as a linux box, both at Verio. It rocks! We have virually no down time, and speed is amazing.
Their support is fantastic. I had to use it quite often when we first moved. (new custom shopping cart software....I knew NOTHING about NT, and had to learn "on the fly" :eek: ...they were very helpful)

I'd love to use them for my personal biz, but as you pointed out...cost is kind of steep.

If you have the cash....Go for it!
