How silly is that! filburt1 12-27-2002, 12:24 AM Considering that that's Mozilla you can turn off most popups. interactive 12-27-2002, 12:28 AM the title should be "This should piss you off. Join the growing trend of >> over 99% of internet users" Fortunately, I don't find myself at sites with millions of ad popups too often but thought that I wouldn't have to suffer this particular one when I'm in the middle of giving a company some cash! jstyler 12-27-2002, 02:04 AM anyone know of a good popup killer program that actually works? Thanks. Artashes 12-27-2002, 02:39 AM To JIM - I've seen that pop-up message many many times already all over the web. to JSTYLER, I use free and incredibly small and bug-free POW! program from AnalogX and I am a happy guy!! It works superb for me. You just have to spend up to 5 seconds teaching it for each pop-up that opens and that you DON'T wanna see in future and that's it! it was one and only pop-up killer i've downloaded from download.com hope this helps. No need at all. IGobyTerry 12-27-2002, 03:04 AM I don't use pop up blockers because I like being able to right clicking and opening pages in new windows, and unfortunately they usually get closed by the blocker. I haven't tried out Mozilla though, maybe I'll try downloading that. Virago 12-27-2002, 03:37 AM I think you should at least write to godaddy and complain that they almost lost your business because of it. Woulda been more effective if you walked and then let them know why. I'll never forget the look on the bank manager's face after I tried to get her to explain what my new accounts entailed when the bank was taken over and she couldn't and I said I wanted to close all my accounts right there on the spot. What really ticked me in advance was some fine print on the back side of the bottom of page 3 of a checking statement I'd received telling me I'd be charged $8 a mo. for a service I'd always received for free from the old bank. If the manager had been able to explain things and placate me perhaps it would have been different. All she could do was grasp at straws and say their "products" had changed. Excuse me, but I don't consider a bank acct to be a "product". It's a service and I expect the bank personnel to provide me with service. In this case I just took my money elsewhere. Ivana Nutjob 12-27-2002, 03:48 AM Popup Stopper (http://www.panicware.com/popupstoppercompare.html) Works for IE 5.x+ and Netscape 4.x+, it's great and it doesn't interfere with manual new window pop-ups, all you do is hold down the ctrl key if you want a new window opened manually. I dunno if it will work for Mozilla though. mind21_98 12-27-2002, 04:47 AM Originally posted by Jim_UK So I'm coming to the end of the process for transferring a domain to GoDaddy and get this... It also allows you do add custom filters which makes it better. Disclaimer: No! I do not work with, nor am I associated with the creator of this program, I just highly recommend it. (VERY,VERY GOOD) MyIE is the best browser to use!! The Dude :) KG 01-02-2003, 08:29 PM Acronym BOY, I disagree with your comment about no need to launch pages in new windows. It makes sense to open a new window if you are pulling up a page on an external site. Unless you don't want the person to come back. For example our newsletter usually includes links to useful information on other websites. We want our customers to return to our site after visiting the external site. The most effective way to do this is to open a new window rather than expecting them to hit the back button. When we switched from loading the page in the existing browser window to launching a new one, we found people were more likely to return to our site. However, I don't think pop-ups should be launched automatically when visiting a site, or worse everytime you click on a page in a site. KG 311 01-02-2003, 08:42 PM HA! That's nothing. You should see the ads that they have over at weather.com! They're disgusting. I'm there, sitting, taking a look at the forecast then out of no where, BAM! This huge ass verizon ad slides accross the screen so that I can't even read what I was previously looking at. And once the ad reaches the center of the screen it sits there for like 10 seconds, untill it moves across to the other side. This type of advertising makes me want to puke. :puke: I should get you guys a screen-shot. It's horrible...! If anyone designing and running a website wants vistors to only their site and no one elses, they need to get a grip. People will visit other sites. I will visit CNN, the BBC, the Times, and several other sites for news. I will visit Ars and 2cpu for computer forums. I will visit several places. Any site owner that thinks their site is the best and visitors should not "leave" their site need to start realizing there is a whole big internet out there. Either you offer a superior web page to keep people coming back even after they close their browsers, or become a dot-bomb. You can either use a php include to add a 1 cm bar across the top and bottom to return them to the last page on your site or just let the link open in a normal window. If I want to (and I do when I don't want to "leave" a site) I will Shift+Click which will open a new window. The downside is if the window is set to pop up, there is no quick way to force it to the same window. I will very quickly leave a site that is filled with pop up links. Let's face it, if people aren't coming back on their own and remembering your site, is your site really that good? Case in point, google. The default is to open in the same window, yet people keep going back to google over and over and over again. If people aren't coming back to your site on their own, you aren't giving them a reason to. vertical7 01-02-2003, 10:53 PM Advertising pop ups. Not only do you hate them, they are also worthless as a marketing tool. ( A poll shows 100% of those polled don't even look at them: Pop Up Poll (http://www.webmaster-forum.net/viewtopic.php?t=141) ) :( Acronym BOY 01-03-2003, 12:25 AM Originally by vertical7 A poll shows 100% of those polled don't even look at them Try a slightly larger microcosm than 10 people for the teeniest bit of accuracy. myg- 01-03-2003, 04:28 AM 12 people? Holy****, that's a huge ****ing poll. I mean, all of them are probably from the same type of people. It's like this. People who get viruses(more than 5 times a day), are the same people that read those advertisments. You know the people who share the computer with 5 people, who don't know jack **** about computers, and read email like: Subject: THIS IS A VIRUS, IM NOT KIDDING PLEASE DONT OPEN Attachment: Virus.exe.its.not.exe (49kb) Sender: 4398ty2934y@ifookedjoomommawithavirus.com alexconconi 01-03-2003, 05:01 PM >A poll shows 100% of those polled >don't even look at them Hahaha... :D.. 14 whole people!.. this is some poll! heh.. although im sure the percent is about right. >free and incredibly small and bug-free >POW! program from AnalogX and I am a >happy guy!!
