View Full Version : Servers around Cyprus or Greece
AlexP 12-26-2002, 11:33 AM Halo.
I plan to offer web-design services to Companies within Cyprus and the connection speed and efficiency are of major concern. Primarily I am looking for Resseller Plan.
My Question. .
Anyone here from Cyprus or Greece can help. I am looking for a hosting company that has its servers in Cyprus.
Thank you if you can help.
CaroNet-Hesham 12-26-2002, 01:35 PM Hi Alex,
we had a couple of servers in a cyprus DataCenter called GlobalSoft I think..and it wasn't very good...uptime and support were terrible..
The one good thing about Cyprus Servers or DataCenters is that they're very cheap..but that's all
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! :)
US DataCenters rule!
Chachi 12-26-2002, 02:05 PM Maybe you should get in touch with NocSol aka StarGate. He lives in Greece and might know some places.
His board name is StarGate
His sites would be www.stargate.hm and www.nocsol.com
Acroplex 12-26-2002, 02:10 PM Geia sou Alex kai Kales Giortes :D
NocSol is located in Greece, although the servers are in the US. There is another guy from Cyprus in WHT but I don't have his name handy. I'll send you a PM once I find his nick.

Cymedia 12-26-2002, 04:44 PM Well i am from cyprus . Who are you ?
Acroplex 12-26-2002, 04:47 PM There! Kotsos to the rescue :D
Choppy 12-26-2002, 04:47 PM Hello,
I was in Cyprus 3 months ago exploring options with hosting and offering dedicated servers etc. Since that plan is not on the move at the current time due to priority and money going to our new division at the moment i would suggest you go look at http://www.cytanet.com.cy/services/index.html
I recommend CYtanet.
Since they are the number 1 provider in Cyprus at this time and since being in talks with them they seem to be in the know of whats going on.
Anyway i was born in Cyprus :D fun fun.
Contact me anytime if you need any help
kind regards
Phillip

Who told you that servers in cyprus are cheap?
Servers in cyprus are very expensive you can get P4 1.7ghz 50Gb bandwith for $600 . Thats no cheap. And yes cyprus connection are not good ...that why we have all our servers in USA.
My opinion is not to go with cyprus connections. Alex if you need any advise i am free.
Good luck

You have very good memory
Choppy 12-26-2002, 04:54 PM Connections in cyprus are not the fastest in the world and its hard to compare an island of 750k population with the US based providers, speeds and pricing.
But just like anywhere companies love local hosting just a feeling of security or something or other i dont really understand it but the customers needs are the customers needs you should not argue with it.
AlexP what are you looking for exactly?
Kind regards
Phillip
zephyr 12-26-2002, 09:05 PM hey alex

i m from greece but if u r looking for affordable hosting and reliable hosts u wont find any in greece or cyprus. Either you ll pay much more than a host in US or you ll end with a terrible support.
I dont know the reasons u wanna get a greek or cyprus host but speed, sometimes, is much faster in a US located server and prices are extremely low. Problem is that bandwidth is very expensive here and thats why prices are up.
But then again you might have other reasons looking for a host.
good luck with your research and if u want any help just ask.
ta leme ;)

AlexP 12-28-2002, 01:57 PM RE PEDIA DEN TO PISTEYO!!!!
Holly XALLOUMI....
I couldn't believe that these forums are surrounded by so many Greeks and Cypriots......
I should say thanks to all and express my happiness that I see so many experienced Greek professionals who are aware of the existing technologies. This is inspiring for the techno-economic development of the nation.
Dear CyMedia, are your servers based in Cyprus? Why don't you use the Euro currency instead of $US in your website? As I said I am interested in a Reseller option.
I don't know any other serious hosting companies in Cyprus, so better to look in the rest of the Europe or the US I guess.
I will set up an email list so people from Greece and Cyprus can arrange face to face business meetings etc. Well lets see and...
KEEP IN TOUCH!!!!
Alex

As we said we dont use Cyprus Network because it is very bad. Our Servers are at USA. Why to use EURO since my customers understand USD???? The second reason is because 2checkout use only USD. Also our prices are different from those on our website.

Choppy 12-29-2002, 04:33 PM Our servers are also based in the US, as i mentioned in another post looking around the Cyprus area for a reliable data center has been a hard job but also very costly.
I suggest you even take a look at some German data centers, but i can not help you with links there. :)
I would not mind keeping everyone here in my contact list and icq list so please icq me if you can :)
Kind regards
Xronia Pola
