I'm getting ready to buy a new 1655MC with a few blades to replace my other Dell servers. Has anyone else used blade servers before? I am interested to here of any experiences with Dells new blade servers or other manufactures such as RLX and Compaq. I would also like hear your reason for choosing a blade server over all of the other form factors, I've done the research and have my reasons....

Xitian,
Would you care to share with us (or me personally) about the reasons on choosing blade servers? We are thinking about doing the same, although at this moment we are trying to figure out whether it will be a good investment.

Sorry but I spent allot of time on my research and sharing it would just benefit our competitors if some of some of their business operations are the same as ours. But one reason is they look cool =) But that’s about 1% of the reason…

That's fine with me Jack. I have done my part on the research and I am getting an amazing and incredible deal on them through my sales rep. Will probably be buying some of these for our nextcoming project. Best wishes on your venture.

There are a couple of reasons why people like blade servers: Space and Cost.
Because a blade server is just that: a server on a blade, you can increase your per-rack server density. So you save space, this is especially important in crowded data centers, or when you are renting by the rack.
They are also generally less expensive than traditional servers, both in start up costs, and in ongoing maintenance (the blade is solid state, no moving parts to fail, etc).
At one time I was looking into blade servers and was considering: http://www.omnicluster.com/ Their site has pretty extensive information about blade servers (one sided of course :)).
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I am thinking of a Blade server too. Who are the main manufactors of Blade servers (besides dell)?

It's just hard to justify the cost. With rack space so cheap it does not make too much sense to me unless you have 1000+ servers.
My 3 cents!
