Is anyone familiar with H-Sphere 1.5?

http://www.psoft.net/h_sphere_info.html

It looks tempting...

Any other suggestions on a good control panel (cost based or otherwise) for a new dedicated Linux box?

It looks good and appears to be priced right.

I would also be interested in seeing any feedback about this product.

Hey,

I have experience with Hsphere. I used to use it as control panel on one of my dedicated server.

This CP has a lot of bugs and because of it special configuration its hard to upgrade system (sendmail, apache etc.)

Name-based hosting is supported by mod_rewrite, bandwidth measure system doesn't work properly.

There wasn't any upgrades to version 1.5 for over 1 year.

I don't recommend to use this software as control panel.

You can check out Plesk (www.plesk.com) or Ensim (www.ensim.com)

If You plan to have a lot of customers I suggest you to check Cpanel (www.cpanel.net) out.

v2 is now out and looks great.

It does everything, including automatic billing. It also handles automatic account set up with cybercash authorized net and domain name registration with OpenSRS.

Handles both namebased and IP based hosting, It is scaleable to any size system, similar to sphera in that regard.

It is more expense than the previous versions at $5 per account, but this is a one time charge.

I don't like systems that charge by the month, cpanel or Sphera.

I looked at the demo, but that does not always tell you everything. I will probably have them install in it on new machine and check it out in more detail.

But right now it looks like the closer thing to an alabanza replacement that I have found.

Would be interested in hearing from anybody else that is using it, especially V2, which is 10 times more expensive than V1.

Unsecure. I'm waiting to see what panel will be the first to get cracked..

Don't be cheap. Go buy a good billing program. I reccommend OptiGold ISP. It has worked miracles.. www.digitalpoint.com. You can also provision new clients, hold, delete and other things from within it. It also has a web interface which will allow users to upgrade, modify, add or delete pretty much anything within their account..

Plus, it runs on macs and windows and served off of FM Pro 5.

OptiGold ISP looks like it might be a good package for an ISP, but does not do much for a hosting company.

It is cheaper that H-Sphere V2 short term (unless that $1 customer is a monthly charge), but does not have need the functiionality of V2 for hosting.

So you are suggesting that I use organes when I need apples.

I will probably have a test server set up somtime next week to have them Load V2 on it and try it out. If it workds, I'll keep it, if it doesn't I'l have them remove it. Most it will cost me the use of a server for a month if I don't like, plus my time, our course.

I was refering to yoru statement about automatic billing within a control panel. You should use third party software for that and leave the hosting panels to do just that.. be a hosting panel..

I looked at it a year or so back. Installed a test run of it, and found it was not so easy, and kinda buggy.. Support was a bit lacking... I would like to see version 2 as well!

The product looks good but I think there is better out there.
