I am home for Christmas and trying to get my hub to work with my cable modem service. I have 3 IPs with them so I know that isn't the problem. When only one computer is plugged into the hub it works fine. When I plug in a second it no longer works. Both computers send packets no problem but neither recieves any when they are both hooked up. Any suggestions before I call tech suuport?

Possibly a bad hub? The fact that one works on its own, but plug in two and neither work... Normally if it's a setup issue the new one may not work, but the first will continue to work... tried different ports?

With the three computers have you hooked up each one by itself and tested it? Does each one work on it's own?

If that's a yes, I would double check the hub...

The hub works. I use it at school 24/7. Its something with the ISP. Both computers work by themselves. Both work plugged into the hub with nothing else in, but when two are in it gets all stupid. Like I said it sends packets but none are recieved. I guess I iwll just have to call tech support. I don't know what settings need to be changed.

Do both computers have the same IP address?

Have you done an ipconfig to find out? That could cause this problem.

Im in the US. I never looked to see if the computer had the same IP, but I don't know how I can set them to be different. The computer won't recieve packets so I can't use Ipconfig to change the IP.

Let me check the IPs.

The IPs are different. Any other suggestions? Please?

Ok, I'm not too technical :erm: but I've had similar problems. First, call your cable company and make absolutely sure they have you set up for multiple computers at your home address. When I moved, my cable company forgot to do that and had to reset it on the account.

If they are, try turning off your computers, then unplugging the cable modem from the cable. Wait about 15 mins, plug it back in, wait for the modem to reset, then turn your computers back on.

Sometimes the two computers here won't work if both are plugged into the hub and that usually solves it.

If neither works... just remember I said I wasn't very technical ^_^;;;;

Can you list the model of hub?

That would have been my next suggestion, except instead of unplugging it from the cable, unplug it from the wall (power)...

Make sure this is not your wiring configuration.
1. Cable/DSL is in the uplink port. <---this actually needs to be done.
2. One of your workstations is NOT plugged into the paired port of the uplink port. (For hubs/switches that don't use a cross-over switch, there are 2 ports which are identical ports except the wiring of one is a cross-over.)

If 1 & 2 are true, then there is your problem (probably).

#1 needs to happen unless you have a cross-over cable between your Cable/DSL box and your hub/switch port. Simply leave a port unused between your uplink port and the rest and you should be "ok" if this is what was causing your problem.
