My small business uses Stargate for not only domain registration, but web and e-mail hosting as well.

I have been having difficulties sending e-mails to some of my customers (reputable manufacturing companies), and have been told that Stargate has chosen to block the domains, due to excessive spamming - something I find very hard to believe.

Stagrate has also chosen to block pacbell.net for spam, which is used by several local friends and clients. I get lots of spam from hotmail, yahoo and other free e-mail services - why not block them as well?

Can anyone recommend a reliable, low cost, small business alternative that will allow be to communicate with my customers and clients?

Do you have access to your domain reg info, via an interface or something that will allow you to "modify the DNS"
You could sign up for a new host, and then modify the DNS at the registrar.
Since you mention you got your domain, and hosting through them, Im not sure if you have access to modify your own domain or have to go through them?

Don't think it will be an issue to move - just surprised, disappointed, and interested in alternative hosting recommendations.

Hotmail and Yahoo are VERY LARGE email providers, Hotmail owned by Microsoft is the largest I think. If they blocked that People would lose contact with all there friends from email if they had friends on those servers. :santa:

My best domain is now with StarGate - I think - been waiting days for them to updat their data base, they be So Slow!!!

Move your domain to a emom reseller,
namecheap or namesleader
and get a new host

Could use some suggestions for a host. Been trying to do research here, and it is easier said than done.

I have one (possibly two) simple, small web sites, to promote a consulting / sales rep business, and less than 5 pop3 accounts. Will start doing some very simple e-commerce transactions in 2003, have a Versign account, and will soon start looking for a shopping cart program.

From the multitude of recommended hosts, focalhosting seems to be one held in the highest regard, although there bottom plan appears to be more than I need. True, at $10 per month it is a relatively cheap date for reliable service, but it seems to be a bit more than I should have to spend.

Spent WAY too much time doing research over the past few days, and have narrowed things down quite a bit.

Looks like most any starter plan will provide sufficient storage space and bandwidth, and the option of at least one add on domain makes sense.

OS Commerce looks like a good choice for a shopping cart - price is right, and it has a Verisign payment module.

As far as hosts are concerned, Hosting Matters and Add Action are in the lead - and the current promotion from the latter makes it hard to resist.

Think I'm gonna make a move tomorrow or Sunday - any last minute suggestions?

Wasn't stargate banned from WHT for excessive spamming themselves? You sure its not the other way around, and the other companies have blocked stargate for excessive spamming? :eek: i would imagine thats a LOT more likely if memory serves correct about the stargate reputation.

I don't really understand your first post. You say that you can't SEND mail because StarGate bans certain IPs. I think like Myles suggests, that StarGate my be banned.

Anywho . . . . Good luck in your search. Many hosts should be able to accomodate your needs.

Sounds like Myles hit the nail on the head - nothing else seems to make much sense, and it would explain why they seem to have no interest in resolving the issue.

:) i love being right (who doesen't?), just to triple check though, do a search for stargate + spam and see if you turn anything up on WHT :) that should be a good measure in general

Errr...there is a ticketing system on the Stargate.com web site.

timechange: I started at stargate's ticketing system - and was basically told to deal with it. THEN came here to explore options, and warn those who are being so helpful.

In the end, I have decided to give Add Action dot net a try. Nothing but raves here, The Plan fits my needs, and the price is too good to pass up.

Appears the whole subnet is blacklisted because of it. [ 65.118.242.0-255 ] so any IPs whithin that range are going to have problems. Stargate does not have a rDNS either (which is really odd?) and that will cause eMail problems as well.
