View Full Version : Reliable windows host
I am currently looking for a new host, right now I am using godaddy and I am constantly having problems with the server. My users are constantly telling me about server errors they are getting when trying to place orders. I need a more reliable host that doesn't put me on a server with 5,000 other websites. My site is written in ASP, has about 400 users that order from it a couple times a month. Currently we are using about 1.5gigs of bandwidth a month which has been steadily going up.
Any good windows host recommendations? Don't mind paying a little more for a faster, more reliable windows host.
AI-Wayne 10-06-2010, 08:02 PM What sort of database do you need along with it? How much database space?
I would check out Crystal Tech and Softsyshosting. Depending on your specific needs with database type and quota one will likely fit better than the other. Both are high quality hosts.
Also of interest might be MaximumASP's MaxESP service if your application is able to handle session state out of process. That would give you a cloud-like solution with more redundancy and higher availability than a traditional shared environment.
If your budget allows you may also want to consider some sort of VPS option or possibly managed VPS. That'll be significantly more expensive than 'shared' hosting, but you get a dedicated environment and resources.

PremiumHost 10-06-2010, 08:08 PM What kind of error do you experience?
Are you sure it's server related?
ASP website is very basic and should have no problem on Windows server.
HostingASPNet 10-07-2010, 01:24 PM Hello,
I suggest you to look at Find A Host section - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/web-hosting-providers

Recently I've been pleased with winhost to be honest. For the price they are very reliable and are surprisingly good with support.
HostASP 10-10-2010, 03:19 AM If you have decent orders coming in and increasing and if also find traffic getting increased day-day, we would suggest you go for VPS and have full on control your application and server space alloted.
Moses.W. 10-16-2010, 07:55 AM You did not mentioned the errors you get specifically but if you belive that the asp script you are using is error free, then most server side errors are being generated because of the limitation set at IIS ie CPU usage, memory usage per application. If you understand that the errors you have encountered are because of IIS limitations then a VPS may be a good solution for your web site.
ahsima 10-18-2010, 09:40 PM I hope that you have taken a decision to shift the server only after the posting the problems to your host provider. If you feel that the response from your host is not satisfactory and still there is the place for improvement in the service you can look for shifting the server.
However, you may not need to spend more. With the existing competition, there are well experienced service provider with cheap rates as well as high reliability.
MatthewR1 10-21-2010, 12:51 PM ThePlanet has been good to our Windows Servers.
Only problem: They do not support software Raid (you can still use it, but their support will not fix it if something breaks)
buginsoup 11-01-2010, 03:33 AM Friends,
With the support of all of you, I found Inmotion hosting for my Linux needs. Thanks a lot.
Now I am looking for a websites of .ASP pages, it has around 2000 unique visitors each day. I would like to move this to a Windows Shared/VPS with Dedicated IP host required OR a very good shared hosting.
My requirements:
Windows (any version)
Shared with dedicated IP or VPS
My budget is around $200-300 an year.
A friend of mine recommended serverintellect.com, I never heard about this earlier.
I am open to your suggestions.
Kind Regards,
CyberHostPro 11-01-2010, 09:19 PM Hi
for $300 you could get a budget VPS or a premium windows shared hosting account. is your website content just pages or downloads too?
kpmedia 11-06-2010, 09:23 PM @CyberHostPro
Yeah, but sometimes a VPS is more hassle than a person wants to deal with. I have dedicated, I have VPS, I have shared, and for that exact reason.
@buginsoup
I cannot highly enough recommend EuroVPS for Windows hosting. Give them a look. www.eurovps.com (http://www.eurovps.com)
For that budget, you'll be able to have a nice setup for a single domain or even several domains.
As far as the IIS version, I'd suggest you move to IIS7, and then take advantage of using it's new mod-rewrite system to optimize your site better.
For Windows, I suggest a host using Plesk -- not one of the other control panels.
While my host is great, and I hope to never have to move, I'm never unprepared and therefore have a "Plan B" list of hosts. Serverintellect is one I looked at, too, but it did not make my list. Pricing was very for what little you got, and some of their plan features were described with generic nothings. It reminded me of Godaddy and others. My decision was based on what I saw on their site.
I think happy-hosting company is what you need.
They provide Windows services in a quality way.
I guess you will be happy with them.
