View Full Version : I should ask WHT for a refund...

Holy cr@p!
You can sure tell school's out for the holidays. Between

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=98626

and

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=98447

I can't read fast enough to keep up.

Two points:

1. I paid for a sticky post in related offers. I think the 2 above-mentioned threads present unfair competition. I'm just not getting my money's worth. After all, who the heck is gonna read my thread when the inmates are running rampant in these threads??? Time to ask for a pro-rata refund??

2. All kidding aside, I think ultimately WHT is the loser with threads like these. Honestly, I just can't believe the utter lack of maturity displayed here. I like to think that I feel good about the industry with which I am associated. But it's days like this that makes me wonder what the heck I'm doing here...

A real shame.

Hardly. That would be a very small % of actual posts. :)

If you put any large group of humans together in an interactive environment, you're going to get your clashes/flames etc.

OT:Just Curious?

How much do stickies cost? and how long does it stay up... is it a per view basis?

can you give some details?

Totally OT but this seems to be one of those nights ;)

Last I heard a sticky was $ 75 for a two week showing.

Things change though so you might want a mail to whtads@ev1.net for confirmation on the latest pricing

i agree - there are the 1 post guys who start the distasteful threads out there - but I for one have learnt a lot from WHT - and will continue doing so. Its up to the WHT guys like us to continue posting educational, helpful and light-hearted replies to keep the community from turing into a bitch pot.

Yes - i used the advjective 'bitch pot' :D :D :D

Uh Huh.....there is more nonsense bashing, flaming, name calling, etc. in this forum than ANY place I know of.
Some might find it entertaining, but the whole damn concept of this forum has lost its way.
I would think twice about paying big dollars to advertise here.
With 26,000 members its time to change things here and I hope HeadSurfer does it!

At first I thought WHT was a great place to research web hosting companies but it seems most posts have their own agenda. The insults and nastiness is a bit shocking since this is supposed to be a professional forum. I don't know if I could trust most web hosting related posts on WHT anymore. I still like the forum for questions on a certain software or product but I would never post a what do you think of so-and-so web hosting company. I wouldn't truly trust the responses. WHT has really opened my eyes as to what a cut throat business web hosting is. Hats off to the good hosts trying to make a living with all these sharks. In all fairness WHT is getting so large that it must be hard to control it thus the feeling that Vito described about the insane running the asylum. I'm discouraged about the tone of a lot of the posts but it stills useful enough to visit. I've only been around a couple months so I don't recall the good old days but it would be impossible to run a forum without some clashes. I've never seen a flame free forum. Let me know of any!

I think I'll stay outta those threads and post here instead!

WHT has become and continues to grow into the following forum:

1. Kids with zero server administration or technical skills seeking advice about how to "run" a hosting company to impress their friends and want a little extra spending cash for a while. They usually stay in business for less than 6 months and close-up shop when they find as with any successful business it takes knowledge, drive, and funding to operate long term.

The first clue to find these business guru's are the threads asking where to advertise and those whining about how customers aren't rolling in and now they want to quit the business since they are running out of cash. I say don't respond to these threads and watch 'em all drop like flies.

2. Flame wars that critique every new legitimate company and competitor mentioned on WHT. I'm all for exposing shams such as unlimited space and bandwidth offers. However, anyone else tired of the threads titled RIPPED or STOLEN.. only to find that the accused sites are only using the same color or layout scheme?

The moderators have a tough job baby sitting but need to be more proactive and remove these types of bashing threads when they have no merit. It's no wonder why so many people I once knew left or no longer contribute to the WHT "community". Sometimes I too wonder why I even bother coming here anymore.

I hope HeadSurfer changes the way things operate here to. Possibly convert all the members over and start a new fresh start of all post and have a archive of lal the old post or short though the weeds and pick the bads one out.

do you think in ALL honestly that "HeadSurfer" will even BOTHER to respond to this thread, we have posted all very valid and common sense posts, yet this will go into the usuall ::blackhole:: of threads to be ignored by Robert. After all, what you dont know, or dont want to know, cant hurt you

For now, at least there doesn't seem to be any incentive for Robert to change anything. WHT is still wildly popular, you won't find any hosting related boards that are nearly as successful as this one. And ofr all the griping some members on this board do about the degradation in quality of WHT, they are still here posting and reading.

If intelligent, thoughtful members of the board were to truly stop posting, then the board would die off, and things would have to change. With very rare exception that has not happened yet.

From the looks of alot of your posts in other threads, you are one that seems to take the "this is just a forum" to the next level.

Why dont you read the forum rules and keep it on topic and start being more respectful of other members

Allan's observation does indeed seem correct.

From my perspective, Bob basically said that if you don't like the forum, then you don't have to use it. Nothing rude about that and a fair statement.

One thing about a forum it becomes what the members want it to become, no matter how much the mods try it is ultimately up to the members here to decide the course of this board not Head Surfer.

If enough get sick of the direction then it can be taken back and turned into somethign else but bitching about it does no good.

Besides schools out and the kids are home might as well let em play.

You guys blame all the "kids" and "teenagers" but Im one of them and havent caused any grief (well I hope :)) nor have I spammed in anyway.

Its kind of annoying when you blame the whole section of us teenagers for the acts of a few.

Tazzman

I don't blame all teenagers, far from it. Most of them are perfectly well behaved individuals, it's just that the minority that aren't make a lot of noise ;)
