Which is the better of the two for CGI?

The CGI scripts I want to use are news updaters. Nothing complex.

I hear both have great tech support.

HO HO HO!
I'm currently with WeinBar.com and I'm very dissapointed. Nothing I read on this forum about them is true. :(

If you search the boards you'll find plenty of comments about Weinbar. Been with them about a week and I have to say I'm non-too excited with the performance of our shared hosting account.

I don't even know where to start. I have also been with them for a week and I'm honestly starting to think the servers they have put up for shared hosting are not fully configured. I sent Michael an email 2 days ago, still waiting for response. I sent an email to their support and CCed it to Michael about 8 hours ago, still waiting for response. I emailed their helpdesk I think 3 hours ago, still waiting for response. Currently I can not send any email from the server, I have tried both PHP and Perl/CGI. When I signed up there were about 80 other accounts on the server, but the DBI module was not installed. They installed it 15hs after I emailed them about it. And I'm not even going to start on the outages..

As they are not I really DO NOT recommend them to anyone!

The only thing I like about WeinBar so far is their connection speed. I get really good speed to their server. I really hope they get a better tech support. I'm gonna try them out for a little longer, we'll see how it goes.

The best company I've ever been with is www.FutureQuest.net - The longest they ever took to answer an email was 15minutes! Usually they answer under 10 minutes. Their servers are fast and good. Only problem is that it would be very expensive to go with them with my needs :( or I would have never changed hosting.

I think I'm going to go with Site5.com, their reputaion and site is amazing!

HOSTROCKET AND WEINBAR

Host rocket? Are you kidding me? They do not even reply to my emails! I have written around 5 emails to them already!

I just wrote to Weinbar today so lets see whether they respond.

BTW, Weinbar's plans are a lot more attractive. One of their admins also writes messages in the Webhostdir.com's discussions forums it seems..

FUTUREQUEST

Did you see their plans? 75 MB space maximum?

Wow! Site5.com's package looks really good. Worth a consideration, I think! Thanks for the reference.

Some of the good hosts I've used in the past are:

Out of all those, acceleratedweb is my favorite because, their machines run rock stable FreeBSD. However, my site outgrew their bandwidth quota.

I currently use HostGo and LiquidWeb. HostGo has amazing tech support. They reply within 10 mins, even weekends.

LiquidWeb has a bit of problems with bandwidth. Perhaps they oversell. It's not serious, just a bit slow at times. Their control panel is packed with great features to take control of your site. Over all, I'm very happy.

Oh, and by the way, I tried HostRocket -- one of the WORST companies I've tentatively done business with! I'm very picky about EVERYTHING.. and believe me...their servers are crap! I never even transfered my domain to their servers. I asked for a refund.

My 2¢

thanks a bunch for those links! hostgo.com and acceleratedweb.com indeed look quite excellent! but both are a bit on the high end side (i would not want to fork > 30 us$ per month..). i guess by my standards, site5.com has the best packages! (i'd go for ***** but their reputation is not good).

but thanks for sharing those links!

ben - DON'T GO TO *****!

It's not like they're jus "bad," they do stuff that SHOULD make the feds kick their doors down, such as bill your credit card for stuff. They also shut my sire down without any warning or notification, it's a dedicated server, too. It's absurd, they shut it down on Wednesday and I still don't know why it's shut down as the tech people only say I have to email abuse@supportteam.net for more info. I did but I still haven't received a reply. This is 100% BS!

So when people say they're bad, they don't them justice! They have the worst billing. They tell you to email everything in order to change your account stuff and they never reply to their emails, it's absurd!

I made same consideration, but between HR and Weinbar I choose www.venturesonline.com

That's why I said it would be very expensive to go with them. Their packages are a little to limited. But if one of them fits your need, try them out. You won't regret it! Not many host have a forum on their site and talk about everything that's going on with the customers.

This is turning into a soap for me!

For every host mentioned on this forum I read how good and how bad they really are. When we made our choice someone post a message saying how bad they really are. Seems to me the hosts are bashing each other here with fake registrations/users.

If this continous this way I think this forum will loose it's extra value regarding host info and more.

How can it be that for the one it's the best and for the other'it's the worst?
How can I ever make a descission wich hoster too choose based on these 100% opposite statements?
It is becoming more unbelieveable every day now.
People, stop wrecking your own business here!
Be honest!

If this continous I will (and I think others will do the same) drop this forum and start my search elsewhere :-(

I will post a message later this week about what we need and we ask you (the hosting companies that reside here) to make the difference for us with what you can/will offer. Based on the offers and readings in this forum we might be able to make a choice finally and hope it was a good one.

Well Domenico,

I can say that from what I read on this board about WeinBar.com they seemed really good. But then when I actually signed up and had a chance to try them out I realised they are not that great. The servers are not fully configured and there is no basicly no tech support what so ever. It's been 17hs now since I emailed them and still no answer. Michael I emailed like 2-3 days ago (given up hope on that one).

I don't know about the people that talked so good about them. Maybe they had a much better experience, or maybe they work for them, who knows. I'm just letting people know about my experience. That's why we're all here!

Never was with one of them, but...

1. What's good for one can be bad for someone else.
2. No host is perfect
3. Personally I think some people are expecting way too much

Hmm, Let me know when you sign up with a host and transfer your site that has a dedications section which is in need of working email, then to find out that no emails are being sent out from the server. And then when you email the owner, the tech support and the help desk there is no answer in 18hs. You really think that I'm asking to much from this webhost?

Personally I think some people should think before they open their mouth.

We had hosted with HostRocket for a short time and then went with WizardsHosting.com (very good to deal with). That was over 4 months ago...

Since our departure, HostRocket has been unresponsive to numerous emails we have sent to them about a mailing list that still exists with our old account and still sends out monthly reminders.

This mailing list sends out a MONTHLY reminder to members that were on it. These members have no way of cancelling their subscription

We have emailed HostRocket and Brendan and created Trouble Tickets to no avail. Since this problem started, we have been accused of spamming from some members that no longer want to get this monthly reminder (as they have no option of cancelling)

Perhaps HosRocket will see this post and perhaps they will reply to us now. Then again... we have had no luck to date......

Zolbian, please calm down. My posting was well thaught and not meant to offend you. It was not regarding your personal issue with any host. I also have experiences with unreliable hosts but stop shouting at people.

My posting was to Domenico thinking about fake users (which, as far as I know, is controlled by the admins here by IP and so on) and a more generally remark...

Hey NetRemedy,

You should be able to cancel that mailing list yourself, even though your account has since been deleted from the server.

I can't remember off the top of my head what the admin URL looks like for mailman (hostrocket use cpanel, right?) but if you just replace your domain in that URL with the address of the server (whatever.hostrocket.com, or even your old IP address, if you remember it) you should be able to delete this list. Assuming of course you remember the administrative username/pass.

I hope this helps you.

Regards,
Vince.

Will try that, just have to figure what old IP was.

Appreciate it as ANYTHING that works would be great!

zolbian,

I've recommended weinbar and I still do. Downtime hasn't been much at all and tech support has been really good. They have been having some problems as they posted on this site with ICQ and I know that Michael posted that his wife just had a child. So maybe that's the delay in the tech support. I'm not sure, but i've got some tech questions too that I need to ask of them.

As for the shared hosting I believe there was some downtime here a while back and it was posted by weinbar what the problem was.

I'm on a dedicated server with them so maybe the downtime has been different.

I agree with Zolbian, If you are seriously looking for reliable host then go with FQ
http://www.futurequest.net . I have 4 accounts with them and they have been
serving me well for 3 years. The are a little bit expensive but that comes with fast
and around the clock service. I am sure wein is trying hard to provide the services
however, they should not keep their customers in dark whenever something goes
wrong. FQ has a forum where they notify you for every single down time or even a
internal problem in their servers. Everything is upfront and nothing is being hidden
from members.
Customer service is the most important part of any business if you neglect it then
you have lost game.

I'm not affiliated with any host.

HostRocket let me down. Non-responsive to my problems (caused by them). I'm reading these posts as I search for another with which to replace them.

Walter, I apologize. I thought you were talking to me. And I'm really pissed that my site is not fully functional. Now I got an email back from their help desk (took about 15hs) where they want to know what scripts that are not working.. Can't they code a script and test it for themselves? I have tried PHP scripts that only have like mail("john@doe.com", "subject", "message"); and that didn't even work. I can understand that Michael maybe just had a child (if so I congratulate him). But he is also running a very demanding business, he should make sure that the business is taken care of even when he is not around. This is not a one man job! You can not close and go home to sleep. Specially when you have a few customers.

This is not targeted on WeinBar or Michael, but to all hosts. I am dissapointed though of WeinBar because they sold me an incomplete service and now me and my users have to suffer for it while god knows where anyone at WeinBar is..
