hey guys,

I have a 400 page website built in asp with a cms and I am looking for a company that will help me with the migration. My current web design company wants to charge me 2000 dollars to do this.

I just need some recommendations for a us based host on a shared or dedicated plan that will do the migration. Any suggestions?

Hello,

You should search for managed hosting provider as Liquidweb, they host www.webhostingtalk.com (http://www.webhostingtalk.com) also and ask them if they will assist you.

Several "look for managed" posts removed. Once is quite enough, thank you. :wht:

That's a rip-off.
Do you store content in a database or 400 pages are 400 asp files?
Website transfer process would involve backup data and re-upload to new host, just like when you publish the website.
You should contact potential hosts directly to request quote for website migration.

Are you currently hosting your CMS site on a dedicated server? if so then you are having full control on server, still if that's a shared hosting you must be able to take DB backup and pages from hosting Panel. Take support from technical resources you may get here in WHT or ELANCE.

1. Get a technical support resource, you would need to check with web-host some could do but with extra charges. Alternatively search WHT / ELANCE find for technical resource.

2. Select a web host, check whether they support CMS application hosting.

3. Move the website to new host. Check it out some host supply you instant alias ( yourdomainname. serviceproviderdomain.com ) set it up first and make sure your CMS is working fine with new host then point your domain to new host DNS by changing name servers.

Hi,

This post is a week ago and you did not respond with some of the inquiries. Do you still have a requirement for the transfer of the site? If so please answer the questions so we can get a better idea. Thank you.

I am telling this for the ones who require their web site moving. If you have a web site without a database thatt the easiest one, just download full backup of your web site and upload to the new server then test it with temporary URL and change the name servers to reflect the server change. If your web site has MS SQL database and you dont have a control panel then ask your web hosting provider to create a BAK file of database then download it and upload it to the new server. Upload other web site files to the new server. Ask your new provider to restore the database. then test it with temporary URL and change the name servers to reflect the server change. If you have Plesk control panel then just use backup manager to backup and restore your full web site with all databases etc.
