In CPanel, I password-protected a directory so that I could work on the forums without anyone seeing it, ya know, a surprise to the fans. Well, now that I'm finished, I tried going back into CPanel and un-pass protecting the directory; but it's still protected :(. Please help :bawling:

simply remove the .htaccess file, this should work normally...

Try clearing your cache and try again.

@ jutzhost - Where is the .htaccess file located? I went into the file manager for CPanel, then into File Manger, then I seen a folder called .htpasswds, I went there, then into a folder called forums, then see a file called passwords, or something like that, I just deleted it, I will check if that worked

But, where is the main .htaccess file located?

EDIT: I think I found it, but still post location where it should be please.

for safe, try have a backup before you do any deletion, as you state try delete the file should solve your problem.

the .htaccess file is located in most directories, but as a hidden file. So you normally can't see it via the file manager or FTP and you may have to SSH as root to see it and edit it.

:( I found it in the File Manager, and tried deleting it...then a friend told me to add some files like .htpasswd, and .htacess, and something else.

:bawling: I can't get the dir. protection off :bawling:

you should be able to turn off the passw. protection in Cpanel.

if you are using leechFTP, go to option add -a to LIST command, if you are using SSH, use ls -a, this will show all the hidden file.

or simply cd to the directory in question and pico .htaccess :D

Well, I contacted the tech support guy through AIM, and he fixed it for me; thanks to everyone who helped!
