Extremely. I get most of my hits from Google for "web design forums" and my domain is "webdesignforums.net". Even though my forums are relatively small (~500 members) I'm the first hit.

As filburt says, it is very important. That and a lot of non-technical people guess domains. Most will assume to type www. whatever they want .com, whether it be ford, cars, honda, ebay, microsoft, etc. So a lot of people can stumble across it like that. It also makes it easy to remember, and as we all know, heavy traffic is a good thing, recurring heavy traffic is the best.

My sport's forum is sport-talk.com and though it has been up less then a month, it is doing ok, tho once the site gets indexed in search engines I'm sure it will become better.

Absolutely, however, it never hurts to gave a good domain name. It makes your marketing efforts that much more effective.

I'd say it's RATHER important to have a good domain name.

Since we are no longer in the pre-historic years of the Internet, it is extremely difficult to just think of a short and relevant domain name (like those you cited as examples) without buying from the aftermarket. Whether it is worth, however, depends on how much you pay.

I am not an expert in other people's business ;)

But on the subject of investing in domains, it takes a lot of time, research and a small investment.

Personally, i place a lot of importance in having a domain name which has keywords that people search for.

I think so, for instance, i registered some hosting domains back in 2000 and held on to them, judging by some of the hostnames I have seen people use, i think they would definitely be worth their cost plus some extra.

Something shorter, in the 3-char range would help ;)

Some of my unadvertised domains get over 1000 typeins a day, that is nothing compared to some people both TC and I know ;)

I can not buy host, hosting or register.com :bawling: - but I do have them in my own language ;)

Good domain names are important, not the most important by any means - but good use of a good dot com makes people come back.
