Chachi 12-22-2002, 04:32 PM ask timechange ;) he's an expert! filburt1 12-22-2002, 04:36 PM Extremely. I get most of my hits from Google for "web design forums" and my domain is "webdesignforums.net". Even though my forums are relatively small (~500 members) I'm the first hit. Acronym BOY 12-22-2002, 04:41 PM As filburt says, it is very important. That and a lot of non-technical people guess domains. Most will assume to type www. whatever they want .com, whether it be ford, cars, honda, ebay, microsoft, etc. So a lot of people can stumble across it like that. It also makes it easy to remember, and as we all know, heavy traffic is a good thing, recurring heavy traffic is the best. myself1982 12-22-2002, 05:05 PM Yeah My sport's forum is sport-talk.com and though it has been up less then a month, it is doing ok, tho once the site gets indexed in search engines I'm sure it will become better. Absolutely, however, it never hurts to gave a good domain name. It makes your marketing efforts that much more effective. nameslave 12-22-2002, 10:03 PM >How important is it, to have domian names related to the content of the page for eg: movies.com (for movies) games.com(games)? I'd say it's RATHER important to have a good domain name. >and is buying domians a good idea as investment? Since we are no longer in the pre-historic years of the Internet, it is extremely difficult to just think of a short and relevant domain name (like those you cited as examples) without buying from the aftermarket. Whether it is worth, however, depends on how much you pay. As the old alchemists had it, it takes gold to make gold. hostjet 12-23-2002, 04:55 AM How important is it, to have domian names related to the content of the page Personally, i place a lot of importance in having a domain name which has keywords that people search for. and is buying domians a good idea as investment? I think so, for instance, i registered some hosting domains back in 2000 and held on to them, judging by some of the hostnames I have seen people use, i think they would definitely be worth their cost plus some extra. joethong 12-23-2002, 05:39 AM Originally posted by UH-Matt depends on how good your marketing is. If you have a big advertising budget you could get a irrelevant domain name and still be successful. nameslave 12-23-2002, 07:05 AM >joethong: If you have a big advertising budget you could get a irrelevant domain name and still be successful. You still need a good, brandable name, not something like "a-long-and-difficult-to-spell-domain-name.com". :D madmouser 12-23-2002, 12:13 PM Originally posted by nameslave >joethong: If you have a big advertising budget you could get a irrelevant domain name and still be successful. RajanUrs 12-27-2002, 03:00 PM Very very good investment plan.......pssssst I will give my 7 letter unique domain to you for 10,000,000.00 :D Originally posted by illusionist How important is it, to have domian names related to the content of the page for eg: movies.com (for movies) games.com(games)? and is buying domians a good idea as investment? |
