View Full Version : Servus, tera-byte and VDI
greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 07:18 AM Hi,
I signed up for hosting with servus.ws 3 days ago and today they have gone down. This has been lasting for about an hour now and I cannot access servus.ws and tera-byte.com (Who servus have their server with). Are they with VDI? Is it to do with VDI? There has been a lot of talk recently about VDI so I am wondering. This is my first hoting deal so I am a bit nervous, especially as my support questions I sent yesterday went are still unanswered, and it has taken a bit longer than it did before I signed up :(
All I want is reassurance :(
c0bra 04-28-2001, 07:41 AM Can you access servus/tera-byte now? I think it is/was probably a problem between your ISP and tera-byte. I've been FTPing from our tera-byte server for the past hour without any problems.
And no they're not with VDI.
greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 07:46 AM Still can't, nor can I access servus' site. Someone else suggested it may be my ISP but I can access many other sites and (free) hosting accounts just fine. :(

I usually use visualroute.datametrics.com to see where a traceroute end up with. Try to tracerote tera-byte.com and you will see it is located somewhere in Canada whereas VDI is in Clifton, New Jersey. thousands of miles apart, so definitely No, the problem does not relate to VDI.
It's funny though... now people start questioning VDI for tera-byte's problem!
cheers,
c0bra 04-28-2001, 07:58 AM Well tera-byte and 4webspace (where servus are located) are both up and running fine so it's a problem with your ISP.
All I can suggest is contacting your ISP if this problem is occuring often. Run some traceroutes and email them off to your ISP techy guys. Maybe they'll be able to help resolve this issue.
If you still can't reach the tera-byte/servus site when you read this, give your ISPs support line a call and see what they say.
greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 07:59 AM Here are the (partial) results from a tracert on my IP address. I did this in MS-DOS and the top part got cut off, but that wass all through my ISP.

P.S. I am sorry about thinking they may have been with VDI, I am glad to be proven wrong.
ksstudio 04-28-2001, 09:38 AM I cannot access servus.ws and tera-byte.com (Who servus have their server with).
Hello greatgraddage
It seems fine for me to log into servus.ws web site. Any way I have drop servus.ws admin a notice regarding this issues. I think they propably will solve this / contact you as fast as possible.

greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 09:46 AM Thanks, I have mailed him also, I don't know if it will get through or not.I am afraid this may be my ISP, but they have no support email for this kind of sitution and theor phone line is 50p a min. and is useless (I have used it before). See http://www.freeserve.com/about/contact/

ksstudio 04-28-2001, 09:51 AM Or maybe try to use another ISP as well at the moment.
I drop the message to servus.ws through ICQ.
:stickout
greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 09:58 AM I don't have any other ISP set up at the moment, whats Donovans ICQ address?
greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 10:40 AM It is my ISP. I tried on another ISP (I set one up) and it worked oerfectly. I do not want to change ISP's because I am quite happy with the one I am with (Until this incident) and it is cheap. I know I can contact my current ISPs support but what can I say? It not only affects tera-byte but one of the sites I moderate the forums on :( I do not want to be cut off from these.
Here is my FTP log for when I try to connect (WS_FTP Pro):

UPDATE I just received a mail from servus about a support query I sent before. I so not know if this is delayed or what.
Hello. I didn't receive any mail from you asking for support about FTP issue until now.
I have no problem using your username and password to log in to you FTP account. So I just guess that maybe it has something to do with your ISP. I am not really sure why is this happening, try another ISP and see if it works.
By the way, our server is not down at the period you can't connect to our server.
Neil. You might consider to contact us with another email address. Our staff is unable to send you mails. All the mails are bounced back given the messagges below.

greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 01:30 PM I have had to go out for 2 hours, now I am back and I can get through. I expect my ISP got their problems fixed. Everyone has been very helpful, thank you all.
:D Happy :D
Thank you all once again, now to change my sig to "Proudly hosted by servus.ws" :D
Neil. I replied your mail. If you still can't receive it in a long time. You should contact your ISP. However, if it got bounced back again, I will tell you here.
greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 02:43 PM I received it thanks :)
:)
Did you get the replies we send before that?
greatgraddage 04-28-2001, 03:06 PM yes thanks :) My ISP is alright, this is the worst thing that has ever happened, ah well. Its back working again and that is all I care :D
