So many posts here are negative (this host is down, that host ripped me off, I hate him/her kind of things), so I thought that I would post a positive one, mostly because it impressed me quite a bit. :D

Over the last month or so, we've moved alot of our shared-hosting servers to ThePlanet.

They put our newest server online on Friday, but we did not get a chance to configure it until today. As part of their service ThePlanet provide 'monitoring' of the server, and it seems that for some reason the server started showing up as being unavailable. And at 3am their time, 8pm local, on a Sunday, their tech support guy rang me up to see if I was aware of the problem and to work through a solution.

Their pro-active action, the fact it was an International phone call, and the day/time, combined to impress me quite alot. ThePlanet is one of 5 different hosts we have server(s) with, and I've not experienced this level of support before.

While it is still a 'honeymoon' period, so far pretty much everything at ThePlanet has been top-notch. :) If things continue this way, I expect we'll have servers with them for along time. ;)

Sounds pretty impressive so far!

Let us know how it works out, many people could use a host with that level of dedication.

But we all know when things start to turn sour...

Got a deal for 5 servers two weeks ago, purchased 2 more a week after, and just ordered my 8th server from them.

Problem is if you go with Internap you also take the datacenter that has Cogent =/.

I think it's not necessary to live there in order to use their services... you could ship your server to their DC.

What exactly does that mean?? Internap does not carry cogent in it's bandwidth mix. Get your fact straight.

They have two datacenters, if you pick the datacenter that has Internap you also get Cogent in the BGP-4 mix. They have two 100mbit feeds to pnap and 5 100mbit feeds to Cogent plus a OC3 (i think) to Qwest in that datacenter. The other datacenter has OC3s to UUNet, ATT and Genuity.

Love them, called this morning and said it was doubtful my server could be put online tonight since their staff was pretty slim due to it being Christmas eve but a pleasant surprise arrived in my inbox about an hour ago with my new root password. Forgot 512mb in one of my boxes but was taken care of in about 5 minutes through their TT system. Much better than RackShack who installed my upgrade into the wrong server, had to have two different people verify that i was actually missing the RAM which took a day or two, couldn't locate the server so they couldn't put it back in my box since they ran out, then causing me to wait 2 weeks while they got a new shipment in.

And I see, you are commenting about ThePlanet in particular. Need to reword your statement a bit :)

Have a Cogent line in BGP4 Mix is a problem? Why?

Somebody had a problem with ThePlanet?

I think he just doesn't want to use cogent, that's all. Not a problem with ThePlanet.

But I understand why users hate any provider with a Cogent line. Maybe have only Cogent line is a problem, but have Cogent in BGP4 mix...

Well the thing is there is 500mbit of Cogent and 200mbit of Internap so obviously more data will be flowing over Cogent versus Internap.

As an update to my earlier review, ThePlanet simply rocks. Started out with a package of 5 servers to replace my RackShack ones in December - now I have 10 servers and it hasn't even been a month yet. Customers simply love their network =).

Guys don't mean to jump in but if you use our InterNap connection at the first datacenter Cogent is not invloved in the mix. InterNap and Qwest are in the mix, Cogent is not.

However I regret to say I have problems with new installs at our first datacenter. The reason for this is cabinet space availablility, don't really have any left.

Also, Thanks everyone for the kind words.
