What type of server is webhostingtalk located on ?? :)
Is it pushing the server to the limit?
I am interested because i'm going to have a vbulletin forum too (not about webhosting tho :D ) , that i think will have a lot of traffic through it.

And how does webhostingtalk make money? hehe...i dont see any ads around anywhere ... Whats your opinion on putting an AD at the top of the page in a forum? Would it take too much load time and make users uninterested?

I believe webhostingtalk is hosted on a 933mhz, 512Mb Ram, 2x 20 gig HD's.

Carlos aka CRego3D has been voluntarily hosting webhostingtalk.com on a dedicated server along with wizardshosting.com (see bottom right hand corner ;))

about the pushing the server to the limit, i dunno... Carlos/MattF might better answer that question

and lastly, webhostingtalk.com is provided as sorta like a "community service" and therefore, money is not considered to be the primary objective ;)

i guess WHT can put an ad on here, but then again, most of us are perfectly happy with just surfing the boards and not being limited by large flashing and animated distractions (i mean advertisements)

WHT is one of the few Web hosting resources that *doesn't* have advertising. That--and the fair-and-strictly-enforced rules they've got here--makes it one of the best places to get "real" information on hosting.

I think it would be a good idea to put a banner on top (right to the logo) and if you don't want the money then give it to the people that need it!

but i afraid putting a banner might increase their bandwidth as well.....

putting banner doesnot increse their bandwith(maybe small amount)
because banners are server side so they are opening in ad agencies servers and your machine

secondly i am visiting this board and this board is superb

i think its admin deserve money for their jobs

at least if they dont want they can donate it to unicef

also this site is really too much targeted so rates can be 30-50$ cpm

think that this site taking 3 million pageviews per month

so it is 120k$/month i think they deserve

Putting banners would mean jeopardising the independent nature of the board (and click-through rates are so horrible that they probably aren't even worth considering at this stage).

We're not interested in earning money, and that will remain the same (unless Carlos tells us otherwise ;))
