Hi guys,

Is BIND the only DNS server program out there? If not - what do you recommend?

Well, it is not but it definitely is the most popular and commonly used one out there.

There is http://www.powerdns.com/products/powerdns/index.php

And if you look really hard, you probably find more.

I personally recommend using a secure and trusted registrar that offers free DNS services..

I've tried both bind and djbdns (from the guy who wrote qmail). Although djbdns is supposed to be the most secure, I much prefer bind. I think as it stands, bind is the most popular.

Try them both out and see which you prefer.

rH4U, it depends on the usage. if it is just to point a website, that will be sufficient.

However if you are hosting clients, you need your own dns.
