"Bites the dust?" Assuming the observations in that thread are correct, on Verio datacenter was down for... 42 minutes.
Yeah, that might be inconvenient if it's your site, but when we read horror stories every couple of days about being down for 24 hours, or three days, or whatever, it hardly qualifies as "biting the dust."
Fact of life, things will go wrong with every network. I'd have no problem placing my sites somewhere where a 40-minute outage is Big News.

o dude
u should have seen me on my days at ardent communications
10 minutes down n i'd be on the phone giving them hell 'till they sh*t themselves... lol... (i was paying for a full 100Mbps at a tier-1 rate, i think i had a right to b*tch...) (this is when the ad markets were strong and the dot-com world was at it's prime)
hehehe... :) while at fdc, i wouldn't care if it were down for hours at a time... well, maybe an email asking what they think the cause is and when it might be back up... but i pretty much assumed they knew their entire facility was down n that they should fix it... :)
its all a matter of what u pay for a service... if i pay a lot, i expect quality and reliability... plain and simple... and i been doing this long enough to accurately judge what i should get for my buck... also because...
ever since i got those boxes a few months back, i have had true 100% uptime, even in terms of network latency... hence my expectations are a bit heightened... :) i use "A1 Monitor" (http://www.a1monitor.com/) to watch all my servers... very nice product... i run a copy on my home comp on dsl and a server i have running win2k... just so i get accurate readings (so latency figures don't go outa whack cuz my dsl messed up mainly... heh)
should have seen me... when i started getting emails about an entire set of verio servers dying, i freaked... lol... it was quite funny... lol... first i assumed it was my DSL that was screwed because traceroute would die off within my ISP's network... then i started going to other sites... and everything worked... then i started trying from other servers, and they did the same thing... so it was wierd... then i tried to go to my reseller panel on verio and i couldn't even get to that... but could get to verio's site/etc... hehe... :)

i got an email from verio... generally saying it was a routing table problem... during their regular maintenance... normally it shouldn't have been noticable... but a /16 block was messed up ... according to them, lasted an hour... according to me... 42 minutes... atleast they're honest to our (client's) advantage... :)
