View Full Version : Web Panel for Windows?
StaticDescent 08-30-2010, 09:50 AM Hello guys!
Um.. Im running my website on a Appserv. I dont use IIS, coz I assume it uses up alot of memory. Is there any other website panels that stand alone without the use of IIS?
Regards,
Sd
Cristi4n 08-30-2010, 09:59 AM Hy,
I don't really see IIS using a lot of memory, maybe you can tune your IIS server.
And if you do not need IIS why not go for a Linux box with a control panel ?
Do you really need Remote Desktop or you use other apps that run only on Windows ?
Currently I am not aware of a control panel that runs on Windows and configures something else than IIS.
If you do not have many sites or do shared hosting, configure each manually for example.
StaticDescent 08-30-2010, 10:27 AM Actually, I've been told that using Windows to setup VPS is the best solution. Im having a website for my own company. Which I need a simple panel to help me setup sub domains.

SD
Cristi4n 08-30-2010, 11:00 AM using Windows to setup a VPS can be a good solution sometimes but not always, do you host your VPS on your own computer ?
hostingcertified 08-30-2010, 11:01 AM If you're going to host your company website on shared server, you don't need to worry about RAM occupied by IIS7. Most hosting companies are deploying GIGS of RAM on server.
If you're planning to buy a VPS and host your company website, please note that IIS7 + WebsitePanel (a control panel to manage your domains) only uses 352 MB of RAM. If you're running smartermail (a mail server on that VPS) it all uses 450 MB of RAM under normal user load.
I don't think you will find any windows hosting company / web panel not using IIS to setup their domains.
StaticDescent 08-30-2010, 11:07 AM Hmm, I was searching for that info, thanks for telling! Actually, my dedis are way more space than 450mb, but now 1 of my dedis is having a 1gb+ memory usage, and it's a brand new installed WIndows Server 2008
But what am I going to use with 2 apache servers? 1 appserv another IIS7
StaticDescent 08-30-2010, 11:22 AM Nah.. I don't think Im going to use IIS, is there any other scripts or stuffs that can be installed in APPserv ?

I mean.. Im running Appserv(ApcheServer) which is already configured and all ready to go.. the site is also up. BUT my problem now is.. is there any scripts/ web panel that doesn't only work on IIS?

Every hosting control panel developed for Windows platform implies that IIS is used on the server.
Good luck searching.

Usually, IIS doesn't take much of the space and for that only reason creating a VPS is not an efficient approach.
However, you can create VPS in a case where you need dedicated resources for smooth functioning of your website. You may use any of the panel based upon windows environment to provision and setup sub domains. All most every panel supports provisioning and management. Just make a quick search here at WHT or in Google. You will come up with a lot of choices.
ecloudhosting 09-02-2010, 11:29 PM You're not going to find many if any web hosts not using the IIS as mentioned above but just like Hostingcertified noted, if used along with websitepanel it doesn't take up much RAM.
StaticDescent 09-03-2010, 03:06 AM Ok, back to IIS then, thanks!
Softsys Hosting 09-03-2010, 04:29 AM Ok, back to IIS then, thanks!

I think you would be better off getting a Hyper-V VPS.
