Hello,

I would like to start new hosting company and looking for some suggestion for Windows Hosting Control Panel and Billing Software. Is WebSitePanel Good? Is WHMCS and websitepanel works? Is Plesk Good?

Please let me know your views so that I can start it.

I think the best billing software that I have seen is PBA based.
Check ecovps to see what it looks like.
EVERYONE seems to suggest WHMCS for some odd reason, so you can expect at least ten replies in favour.
Plesk is excellent. I have been using it for quite few years, but it cost money, while the free version WebSitePanel can save you a bit. I would like to try it actually to see how it differs from Plesk.
Good luck. We really need more Windows hosting.

Hi

WebsitePanel is really good, its got plenty of features! WHMCS and WebsitePanel work fine together, you'll need to use DotNetPanel module in WHMCS but it works exactly the same.

I didn't tried WebSitePanel yet. But it will work with WHMCS as I can see the module for websitepanel in my whmcs. I'm using Plesk in my Windows Server and its working fine for me.

So I would like to recommend WHMCS+Plesk

Recently cPanel.net has released a new control panel for windows hosting. that's Enkompass (http://www.cpanel.net/windows/overview.html). Please have a look at it also.

I would suggest combination of WebsitePanel and WHMCS. Both are excellent softwares in their category.

Hello,

Has anyone used WebSitePanel/DotNetPanel E-Commerce module. Is this billing software? Can it be used to sale additional services like domain, ssl, etc.

E-Commerce module is Websitepanel built-in billing system.
It can be used to register domain as part of a hosting order.
Billing script like WHMCS has a lot more features and is a powerful tool for customer management.
Many hosts provide free whmcs so it's an obvious choice over Websitepanel ecommerce module.

I think I agree with all of this. :)

PBA = yep, good billing
Check EcoVPS = yep, good host
Everybody suggest WHM = yep, too much I think
Plesk is excellent = yep, using this for about 6 years myself
Need to try WbeSitePanel = yep, me too
Need more Windows hosting = yep, but only if they are truly Windows techs, not Linux techs playing Windows (that aggravates me to no end, "duh" isn't an acceptable support desk answer)

Haven't found any other host who has moved from WSP to Plesk. Any reasons for this move?

There were no issues or anything, just sort of wanted to try a few things early on.

I don't mind this setup, except for the every now and then random problem Plesk seems to run into that I hear about more and more lol...

I wouldnt touch Plesk. Anything that does not accommodate proper clustering - and especially with Windows - should be avoided at all costs..

WebSitePanel is good - just do not use their inbuilt billing (ecommerce module) - it is horrific. We use websitepanel for exchange, with our own integration into hsphere for billing.

On the windows front, you should also look at hsphere. Handles clustering, runs email and dns on Linux (which is where these services should be run), and handles everything including billing, domains, ssl's, etc..

hope this helps..

Thumbs up for WHMCS if you need a billing web application, it is fast and full featured.

Another vote for WHMCS...(I think that's more than 10!) I don't currently use a control panel for Windows, just inhouse scripting... I'm looking at cPanel for our Linux hosting...People seem to recommend it a lot.

WebSitePanel needs at least 1GB RAM memory in order to work.

And this is pretty much a standard on Windows servers these days.. Can't imagine someone operating production websites on a Windows server with less than 1 Gb RAM.

Just because your company offers 1GB RAM in the Windows VPS plans, doesn't make 1GB RAM plan standard. Probably you need to meet the WebSitePanel 1GB RAM requirement, which is a big waste of precious resources IMHO.
The question is how much free memory is left after installing the WebSitePanel on one of your servers?
The standard nowadays is 512MB and there is a big difference in price between 512MB and 1024MB RAM.
Plesk needs only 256 MB (I tested this by installing it myself on a 512MB server and there was still about 150MB free RAM).
FYI, My production server works on 768MB RAM with Plesk.

Windows 2008 R2 does require a minimum of 512 Mb RAM and if you are using IIS + Database engine (required for WebsitePanel), you should be at 1 Gb minimal RAM. On a more general basis, IIS + Database engine does require 1 GB RAM for optimal performance and to avoid page swapping which would degrade performance drastically. You can obviously get away with everything on 512 MB RAM VPS as well (though there will be obvious performance difference between 1 GB RAM VPS & 512 MB RAM VPS when you are using database driven application).

I would suggest nothing less than WHMCS for your CMS.

I would recommend HostBill for billing system, probably WHMCS' only competitor.

Goodluck with your venture!

I respect above statement but I would not recommend HostBill if you will need help or support. Their support is pretty slow and monthly license has some activation bugs...
