View Full Version : Help save a christmas for one family.
DJiMPaCT 12-19-2002, 04:30 AM I was debating whether this is to go in the related offers and request forums or this forum, since it doesn't benefit me I decided to put it here. Mods do your thing if I am wrong.
Today I was reading the newspaper when I came across this article, http://www.canada.com/search/story.aspx?id=6b0f4c24-6b64-443e-a8cd-9557653a07e9 (found it on the Internet for the benefit of sharing it with you folks). After reading it I was shocked as I am sure you all are as well. I decided I would try and help him out and try to get him his money back. I will be contacting him tomorrow in regards to this, and I was wondering if anyone else wanted to chip in with me to help him out.
If you want to help out, please let me know I can take any form of payment you want. Anything will help out, I have paypal etc..
You can contact me the following ways:
AIM: GraphicalEdge
ICQ: 72251955
EMAIL: Kelsey@edgehost.com
Thanks guys,
and happy holidays
Well, I absolutely hate when the word Christmas is used as a noun instead of what it really is, a celebration, and you can't steal Christmas any more than you can steal New Years day.
In spite of what everyone thinks, Christmas will happen with or without gifts.
But I don't want to wreck this guys holiday celebration, so if you'll take it, I'll give you the $8 I have in a PalPay account that I no longer intend to use.

The Dude 12-19-2002, 01:33 PM Theres a program out called "Empty stocking" i think thats what it is,and what it is,is you are assigned a family to buy stuff for,but THEY DONT WANT YOU TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE (Too ashamed,i dunno...)
My opinion is if someone needs help DONT BE AFRAID TO BE KNOWN,WE ALL SHOULD STICK 2GETHER,IF YOUR TOO SHY TO LET SOMEONE KNOW WHO U ARE THAT NEEDS THE HELP,YOU DONTR DESERVE IT (Thats my opinion,i dunno,i may be a little crass here,but.....)
The Dude :)

That is not rude, don't worry I am sure a lot of people second an internet type fund rasier. But I assure you I am just out to do the right thing, and if I didn't get any funds from wht I was going to send my own cash. This just sort of makes it easier on me.
Thanks for the donation, you are doing the right thing.

Jamez Brown 12-19-2002, 09:20 PM Please PM me your paypal address, I'll give $5..... I'm mearly a kid, so I don't have the money, but I feel so sad for the guy :bawling:
Chris G 12-19-2002, 09:38 PM How are you going to contact him?
It seems he is unlisted: http://canwest.canada411.ca/english/presults.asp?lastname=Ginther&firstname=Ronald&citytown=PEACHLAND&province=Search+All&row=0&Submit1=Start+Search
Im sure if he contacted the newspaper telling them about this they would contact the guy and ask if they could give out his contact information..
Chris, it's even more simple than you think. You send a letter to (or call, so it's faster) the home town newspaper that covered the story. If they don't or can't give you the information, they will give you a way to give him the money, I am sure.
I do contract work for a newspaper, and anytime we do a story like that, people contact the paper, then somebody or a local bank sets up a fund for the person.
btw, I am not listed anywhere either, but those telemarketers sure find me.
Ya damn them telemarketeres eh!
Hostkookster 12-19-2002, 11:42 PM Wow I'm surprised this story made it on to this forum. Cool. This dude lives 5 mins from me. :) I dropped off $10 for him yesterday. I was shocked too. The local radio station Power 104 did a huge fundraiser for this guy - he got back his money for christmas plus thousands more. He's taking the extra money that people gave him and giving it away to various charities - now thats some christmas spirit right there.
I have his contact information if you need it including address and Ph#. PM me.
Hostkookster 12-19-2002, 11:52 PM "It's A Christmas Miracle"
Ron Ginther calls it a Christmas miracle. The Peachland man, who is confined to a wheelchair, was robbed this week while doing some Christmas shopping at Orchard Park Mall. A thief stole his fanny pack and made off with $600 in cash and his bankcard. When the story hit the media, Ginther's phone started ringing and ringing. People wanted to help. "The reaction from people has been phenomenal. I didn't talk to the media to raise money, what I was trying to do
is get it across to people who are disabled to pay attention to their surroundings," says Ginther. By early Wednesday afternoon people had donated about $1,500 in cash. Ginther says he will donate any excess money to charity, "and I hope people who gave money are alright with that." Ginther says he's been getting calls from strangers from all over Canada. "I've been getting calls from the Yukon, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Castlegar -- it's amazing."
Jamez Brown 12-20-2002, 12:43 AM People are amazing :)
DJiMPaCT 12-20-2002, 01:06 AM Well you guys beat me to it,
We contacted him today and basically he did get the money, and anything else he gets he will give to the empty stocking charity.
So everyone who donated can 1. get their money back 2. leave the money with me and help me find a charity (or help a family in need).
Kelsey, I think that maybe we should search the internet for more cases like this or similar to this..
Im sure there are less fortunate people that we can still donate this money too :)
Yeah, I for one do not want the money back. I am quite sure there is a need somewhere.
Lirath 12-20-2002, 03:35 AM I hadn't gotten around to donating yet. In fact I was going to do it tomorrow morning (a bit late i guess)...
If you can find a similar case I will still donate.
ho247 12-20-2002, 05:38 AM Since all the remaining money is going to go to charity, would it not be a good idea to donate it to help ill children? Check out this (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=764571) thread for more details.
Just a thought :).
Alan
DJiMPaCT 12-20-2002, 08:23 AM Ok well that is an idea, but don't you think it would be best to do something more in the xmas spirit. Like help the less fortunate? Possibly some one else's Christmas who was ruined by something similar but didn't get the publicity this gentlemen did?
I am open to suggestions, and anyone who wants to donate still it will go to a good cause.

I'm sure there are other people out there will benefit from the money you have collected during the xmas period. I was just suggesting an alternative charity to donate to, which is still a good cause :).
Alan
DJiMPaCT 12-23-2002, 12:28 PM Ok well I think today is the last day we can donate it,
so unless anyone else comes up with some ideas quick I will just give it to the salvation army?
The guys standing out the mall with their bell etc..
