I'm about to start my web host business this week.
I was ready to host on a vdi reseller but after reading all those posts I'm quite confused...
My sites are rather small and require low bandwith....
I was planning to rent a semi dedicated server for a VERY low price ( <70$ a month) (3.2MB) ...

Do I have alternatives???
Alabanza is far too expensive.....

Please help me....

I would hold off on going with VDI until the situation stabalizes. There is an upgrade in the works (supposedly) and I would wait it out to see how that goes. If all goes well, the I would say go ahead. But I wouldn't make any moves until we all figure out what's going on.

From what I've read today from businesses tied to VDI and VDI people themselves on these boards, I know I wouldn't want to entrust my business with them in the forseeable future.

montini, http://www.rackshack.net offers dedicated servers for really cheap. I've asked them before and they do allow hosting off them. 150gb of Transfer/5gb hard drive is a good deal for under $100 a month.

Moniti,

Are you going to need CPanel, or do you have another account management system that you're planning to use? I know that a big benefit of hosting with VDI is the fact that they offer Cpanel for only $25/month, while the retail price is $250.

Also, when you say semi-dedicate do you mean a single large account, or a virtual dedicated server setup, where you get root access to your "server"?

That's an interesting idea. I don't know of any hosts at VDI who offer this service. I think by combining Ensim and Cpanel this can be accomplished, but there aren't any hosts at VDI who are offering this (that I'm aware of).

I think Powersurge (www.powersurge.net) may offer something like this, although I can't seem to find any information about it on their site. I remember reading in WHM that they had combined Ensim with Cpanel to install multiple copies of the program on one machine. You might want to give them a call and inquire about such a service.

If you're simply looking for a standard reseller account with the ability to manage your customers from the web, then any host offering Cpanel should be able to provide you with that service.

Hope that helps!

If you want people to email you, you need to post your email address...your profile doesn't have one available.

If you are looking for a "VDI Based" type shared host with a reseller program try site5.com. They offer an enhanced version of cpanel with netadmin. They are NOT VDI Based. You might want to try your luck with them.
