A surgical achievement occurred at the Athens Medical where, according to an announcement by the company, a group of doctors headed by surgeon Nikolas Souras removed a big toe from a patient and attached it to his hand to replace a thumb.
The patient was a 19-year-old man who had his right hand thumb and index finger mutilated by a machine.
Souras said in a statement the patient's new thumb will have both a perfect appearance and function and will be comparable absolutely with his lost thumb.
