Hi,
I am a developer based in India and i use ASP.NET mostly.
I am looking for a reliable windows host for a client website. In short, the website is an Inventory Management system which will be accessed from various places in India.
I think there will be approximately just 50-100 requests a day and 99% of the requests will be queries to the database (the basic select, insert, update, delete).

Disk space: Approx 1 GB

I am not sure if i have to go for a shared or reseller hosting.
I think VPS or a dedicated server would be just too much for the requirements i have mentioned. Also, i dont have the expertise to manage a dedicated server.

I am looking out for a windows web host which is reliable and gives me good support.
Data is also one of my concerns. Although i would take frequent backups, i also would like the host to have a good backup policy in place.

Regarding Budget: I am not sure. I have checked most shared hosting sites and they are anywhere between $3.5 to $5 per month. I am ok with such kind of pricing and am also open to suggestions.

After going through some of the threads here i have made a short list of webhosting companies (which i assume are good after going through the various threads on WHT). However, i request the community here to suggest some good webhosting companies.

Thanks & Regards,
Satish

How is SoftsysHosting and webhost.uk.net . I see that they (softsyshosting) offer more or less what i require at $3.5 per month. Softsyshosting also gives me MSSQL 2008 which is good. Webhost.uk.net offers a little bit less space and bandwidth for around $40 per year. But they provide MSSQL 2005.
I am also checking out Hostdime.
Any other recommendations

Thanks,
Satish

Do you need to host multiple domains?
It might be a good investment to purchase a multiple domains hosting package so you can test other websites.
With reseller account, you will have separate login for sub account which is convenient if you want to give your customer control panel access.

As of now there is just one client website developed on ASP.NET. So, may be the reseller hosting would not be worth. Further, i would be managing on his behalf so the client might not need the control panel.
If i get a chance to host multiple ASP.NET websites in future, i will consider reseller hosting.
Just wanted to know if Shared hosting can give me the required reliability and support.

Thanks,
Satish

You surely don't need VPS or dedicated server. 100 to 200 queries a day can esily be accomodated by any hosting company.

Regarding the back up policy, you should make sure that the company you select should be taking multiple backups (daily, weekley & monthly atleast) and they don't charge you for restoration.

You would easily get a hosting company that offers SQL DB + ASP.NET 4.0 hosting for as low as $4/month or below that one ...

You dont need more than a reliable Windows shared hosting since your web site requirements are very low. Your price range seems reasonable, you may find good deals at WHT offer section and just dont look for the lowest price, your web site's prestige are more valuable than 1-2 dollars.

Shouldn't have trouble finding a host for those requirements (they're not very difficult). Price wise, you should be able to find a reliable basic package that offers all of that, should be in your price range.

At $3.5-$5 a month you can probably get a very reasonable shared webhosting here on WHT. You should check out the offer forums as those often give you 50% off for life offers.

Additionally VPS might be a better choice and their do vary a bit in price ranges and features however I believe you might be looking at about $9/month from offers in this forum!

Remember to do your research and read reviews before choosing your host personally I only trust reviews from this forum because moderators care and take the time to review all reviews... :D

Personally some good host I've heard of in the past is Sharkyscape, HawkHost. These are very common and respected here. Sharkyscape has a 50% off for life offer which makes it really affordable

if your primary audience is in india - host in india- your user will notice a big difference in speed for his application. It is not as expensive as you think !
A VPS would be like $50/mo and enough for you to run a few customers on. The user experience is so important it sometimes is the dealbreaker for applications. Who would like to enter data in a slow application !

also if $50 is expensive then you could go for shared hosting though for running an app its always nice to isolate yourself ..

I understand that speed is an important factor. However, i feel that $50/month is expensive considering the number of users and the number of requests per day.
In any case i will discuss this with my client. So, can you please tell me if the difference in speed is considerably high or manageable.

There is a speed difference. You can get cheaper shared hosting if your traffic is low. this is the reason why so many sites are hosted in India when you have indian audiences. A number of our customers host their applications because of faster response times of pages -- quicker loads - gets the job done faster . In terms of numbers you will see 2-4 times speed improvement if hosted in India. We can demonstrate it to you but we cannot self promote in this forum otherwise i could shared links.

If you have a simple website you dont really need to host in india (unless the price is the same) but for an application it can make a big difference in terms of User Experience.
