View Full Version : Webmin & Raq3
Whoever has installed webmin on your Raq (preferable Raq3), please reply and let me know if you are getting any error using it?
I just want to have a look at the ratio to help me make up my mind to install it or not. :)
Thanks in advance for replying :)
avara 04-26-2001, 07:17 AM I suggest using search before asking questions -- this same topic was brought up recently.
Anyhow, as far as I remember, installing Webmin caused quite a few problems, so NO, DO NOT INSTALL IT - unless of course you want to pay your hosting company to restore your RaQ. :D
Starhost 04-26-2001, 07:47 AM Webmin only make troubles when you still want to use the GUI. If you don't wanna use it, you can install it without having to restore your raq.
Domenico 04-26-2001, 07:55 AM I run both and it works quitte fine.
Just don't use the user functions the cobalt cpanel has with webmin but just use the standard cpanel for that.
Evrything else that the cpanel doesn't have is safe to use. I do use webmin and it works.
Period!

Why would people want to use the GUI if they installed Webmin ?
Domenico, which is the standard Control Panel you are mentioning to avoid the problems? Cobalt or Webmin?
kentaurus 04-27-2001, 07:20 AM I have installed webmin and so far haven't had any problems. I use it to manage mysql users and to see cron jobs, server logs... without having to telnet to my box.
I prefer to keep cobalt control panel, since my users always have a siteadmin/ cp that they can mess with, I don't wan to give them access to webmin since I think it is targeted for advanced users.
If you keep away from apache and sendmail, you are ok installing webmin, it is a really powerful tool so you should consider using it.
Domenico 04-27-2001, 08:10 AM Well Donovan I use both but the cobalt cp mainly for user management.
If you read all the message about this topic you will know by now what not to do in webmin.
keep the usermanagement with the cobalt cp.
The more technical stuff is for webmin. Only for you and not your users btw.

So you mean, if I only use RaQ CP to add users, while using webmin to add new accounts, and adminstrate the server, there will not be any problem ?
What do you mean by keep away from Apache and sendmail ?
Domenico 04-28-2001, 07:29 AM No, you must use the cobalt cp for adding new customers too!
Webmin is for the server administration wich you can't in any way from the cobalt cp.
So you mostly use it for DNS, Apache, Cron, Unix thing?
And use Cobalt CP for users, adding new domain, etc ?
Are your users using webmin or cobalt cp for their accounts?
Domenico 04-29-2001, 06:05 AM Webmin is only for ME, not the users.
I think webmin is an administrators tool. No more no less.
joubarani 05-20-2001, 09:51 AM Hi,
We read the discussion about webmin.
We admire webmin very much. We have a cobalt raq 4i. We tried to install webmin (version 84) on it from the address:
http://cobalt-aid.sourceforge.net/files/Features/Intel/Webmin-1.0.pkg
and used it properly for a while then install an upgrade for version 85, it was very useful for us, however we discovered later that it corrupted the cobalt control panel since, as we heard, it deals with web server and DNS differently than the cobalt control panel. We asked the hosting company to restore our cobalt and so we obliged to waive it. Later we heard someone talking about using its filemanager and telnet (other section services), so it can work properly without dealing with webserver and DNS.
Is that possible? And how to install it without corrupting the cobalt control panel? And can we edit files such as httpd.conf without having any problem?
We appreciate your help, and we don't want to reask for another ful restore for our cobalt.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
J.Joubarani;)
hvdm_20 05-21-2001, 12:23 AM same problem here i didt pay 150$ to restore the ****ing raq because i installed webmin, no more webmin for my, maybe if someone nows a sollution
shadowbreed 06-21-2001, 04:38 PM You can succesfully install the .pkg form cobalt-aid and then just don't touch anything the gui does, works like a charm.
Wow... This thread has been posted sometimes ago already. Hehe...
Chicken 06-22-2001, 09:51 AM Means people are searching the forum -that's a *good* thing :D
Personally, I think that maybe he should start a new thread asking his questions as more people pay attention to new threads.
Just my two cent.
