View Full Version : Europe based host, feature rich as DiscountAsp but cheaper priced?

Hello everyone, I made an asp.net site as a student project (slash my mom's catalog mail order shop), and hosted it first on godaddy to get a discount on my domain, but then realized that they were very retard-friendly (they lacked advanced features and had severe restrictions on the existing ones). Then I moved the site to discountasp (this time around i did my homework), and I only have words of praise for them on every single aspect, except that their prices are actually quite rich for my taste. Basic plan, plus MS SQL database, plus static IP (for SSl Cert) is 30$ a month.

So, is there any other Europe based host, that supports the above and all of this features below, but with not so steep a price tag?
- Dedicated Application Pool
- Full Trust Code Execution
- Domain Access With & Without WWW
- IIS7 URL Rewrite Module
- MS SQL Fulltext Search
- Use of RSA Key for web.config encryption
- GZip compression (discountasp supports only static content)

I do not care for the number of domains/databases or permited space/bandwidth, but more than 1000 outgoing mails par day (discountasp had 5000) is strongly desirable.

SSL Encrypted SQL/FTP/SMTP Connections - not really necessary, but more professional...

Also, if I end up not finding any Europe based cheaper ones, please feel free to suggest an US one, BUT with ALL of those features supported as a FACT, not as a guess or an estimate (not even an educated one). Thank you all in advance.

(site address is in the last edited reason below, couldn't add it any other way without 5 posts first - graphical design left for last, but it uses master pages, user controls and external css files like a CMS)

I know Full Trust is something a lot of shared hosts don't offer so you might find it hard to find a host that offers that.

Thanks for your reply Barry, and yes I am very much aware of that fact, hence this very thread. I went through your website btw, and i like the long, concise and detailed list of features, i think it is a real bore when i have to email sales for specifics. But what is your policy on RSA an GZip?

I got positive confirmation on all features from Quantasoft vvv.qsh.eu (Czech Republic and Slovakia) and vvv.dotnetpark.com (UK), any experiences here from anyone with them?

Discountasp is a lot more expensive than godaddy so the features they provide is a must have for the money you pay.

Yes, they are both worth the money you pay, godaddy as a cheap host for simple and static pages and discountasp for when money is not a problem and you just dont want any compromises, i agree. But my problem with discountasp is that for just 10$ more a month (which you would have to dish out anyway if you even want just one more database for example) you can get an actual VPS, and then the problem of supported features becomes quite moot, not to mention all the other benefits that come with it.

Unfortunately for RSA and GZip we do not support them. GZip is hard for a shared host, you most-likely will need to look towards a dedicated host for something like that

Yes, you are right, those that do support it only enable it for static content but not for dynamic as well.
