View Full Version : Setting up Microsoft Web Deploy - Anyone used it?

This is a requested feature on our servers, so I'm setting it up on a test server right now. I've got it all configured and set for my test account and I'm installing MS Visual Studio so I can try it out (It's over 7 GB though, so it's going to take a few hours to download).

Anybody used it before? Anything I should look out for/know about? Any feedback on how well it works and any little quirks and such to watch out for on the back end would all be helpful. Knowledge is power, after all.

Thanks.

Okay, I got it up and running and have successfully imported/exported with it, but I know pretty much nothing about ASP.NET and there's a couple kinks to work out yet. If there's anyone that's used this on their servers I'd greatly appreciate the chance to tap into your knowledge a bit.

How can you support customers when you don't know much about ASP.NET
If i'm an end user, i would transfer my site manually when i have to switch host.
The tool is useful for server migration or moving complicated site which should be hosted on dedicated server anyway.

It's a learning process. I'm still relatively new to the Windows Server platform, thus I'm learning as I go. I've been Linux oriented for the last 8 years.

As for the coding, I just need someone that can test it with some .NET code. We don't generally support any code we didn't do ourselves, so that's a non-issue. I just want to make sure that Web Deploy is working correctly.

Anyway, I came here seeking some advice, so if you have something helpful to add, please feel free to share.
