Hi,
We have been working on a billing script for a few weeks now, that is simple, but can be very useful. This script uses Authorize.net for credit card processing. We would like to know what you think.

How is works:

You can manually put in the client information or you can use a script to have it automatically done , when a clients orders. You have the options to put in the Clients Name, Clients URL, Clients Credit Card #, Clients Exp. Date, Creation Date, and Billing Cycle. Once you have put in this information, every Billing Cycle Date, the script will automatically, charge the clients credit card, and will send you an email to let you know what clients cards were declined, and which were accepted. You can also allow you clients to be automatically removed from the script, when they decide to cancel their account. It will send you an email and let you know, so you can cancel their account.

This script might be better for small web hosting companies, and resellers.

Questions:

1.) Do you think this would be useful?

2.) What would it be worth?

3.) Who would it mostly be good for?

Give us any comments you may have. Please :)

I might be int. in such a thing as we use authorize.net but I dont think a whole lot of people here do use authorize.net make it compatible with more gateways and youll have a ton more customers, I myself prob. wouldnt pay more than 50.00 for, not because were cheap just because you can make a comma delimited batch file to do basically the same thing for free.

Thanks for your comment!

We might decide to add more features to it.

I've recently switched to EMS for merchant account/credit card processing and this type of system is included at no extra charge.

I'm NOT trying to take business away from you - I'm just thinking that if a service already exists, people might not want to pay too much for an add-on.

If someone is already out there doing the same thing, please let the word out... We don't mind. This is a script that we have had for over 5 months. :) We might give it away as freeware...

Add the ability for invoicing (I agree with Charles that what you've got here is not a lot more sophisticated than just using a batch file with AuthorizeNet) and customer information tracking and you probably will have a good product. Otherwise, what you have here probably wouldn't sell for more than $25 or $50 and you'll have limited customer base at that price.

Run a search for "billing" with my handle "Jason Ellis" in it, and you'll find a very long thread called (I think) "Account Management" or something to that affect. You'll see a boatload of my opinions (and other peoples too) in there. Very useful read if you're serious about building a billing system.
